Democracy Creates Jobs

Taxes is another expense of doing business. I once suggested that we hire a High School Student at minimum wage to work keeping the supplies in order. (Things move around very quickly in a home improvement company in the summer months) That's when it was pointed out to me that minimum wage meant that plus Additional taxes, So he wouldn't really be minimum wage. Instead we had one team stay back an hour each morning to reorganize, do inventories, etc.

Indeed. every new hire is an enormous expense for an employer.

"This idea that a few wealthy people -- the 'producers' -- hand everything down to the rest of us -- 'the parasites' -- is fundamentally at odds with the concept of democracy.

Rich parasites don't create jobs.
Demand creates jobs.

"If you ask around you will find that every business tries to employ the right number of people to meet the demand. Any business owner or manager will tell you that they hire based on need, not on how much they have in the bank...

Actually, "the Rich" Don't "Create Jobs," We Do | Truthout

Correction:

Demand met by investment which produces "supply" creates jobs.

The main reason big companies get bigger is through "acquisition". They aren't "creating" jobs, they are absorbing the jobs someone else created. Many times, it was someone who wasn't "rich" but took out "bank loans". This right wing claim that "rich people make jobs" hasn't been substantiated with any "data". And of course, it won't be.

If the choice is between Oligarchy or Democracy, which side are you on?

I'm on the side of the Constitutional Republic which guarantees the rights of individuals over the willfulness of the mob. You really need to get over the fact that you are incompetent. Some people are better then you (hell most people are better then you) get over it.

You're on the side of rich white slave-holders who prescribed representative democracy for all property owners, right?

It's hardly surprising slaves like you find equality threatening.

The rich and well to do are not the ones who drive our economy. The economy is driven by demand for goods. If the vast majority of people do not have money to spend on those goods and services, then there is no reason for companies to produce more goods or services. In the case of diminishing demand, the solution to keep companies solvent is to reduce production, which in turn leads to fewer people working, which in turn leads to lower demand for products and services, which in turn leads to the need for fewer workers, and the cycle continues.

It's like the argument against the minimum wage. Some will argue that employers will hire less workers if the minimum wage is too high. However, the truth is that the higher the minimum wage, the more money people have to spend. As they spend that money, demand is increased, which in turn increases profits and leads to the need for companies to expand by hiring more workers. As they hire more workers to meet demand, the economy grows.

There is a good argument for supply side economics. However, like any good thing, too much of it and it becomes a bad thing. Allowing the wealthiest of the wealthy to increase their assets while the majority of America is losing theirs shows us that we have gone too far and need to change direction. We just need to be careful not to swing too far in the opposite direction, which tends to be what happens.

What Century do YOU live in? What was the 3/5ths COMPROMISE, and it's intent?

What was settled in the Civil War?

You have alot of study to do...and don't come back until you have the correct answers. Your cloak of obfuscation does not suit you...it's ugly, and patently unbecoming and ignorant.

Some Democrat who used to own a business made the claim "taxes make absolutely no difference in the hiring equation."

Care to refute it?

Taxation does not affect the number of customers with enough money to buy products nearly as much as employment does. Only the Soviet Union in the last decade of its existence lost more jobs than the US did between 2000 -2010.

In a consumer driven economy designed to serve people NOT profits, "regular people coming through the door with money in their pockets is what keeps everything going..."

"When all the money goes to a few at the top everything breaks down. Taxing people at the top and reinvesting money into the democratic society is fundamental to keeping things going."

Actually, "the Rich" Don't "Create Jobs," We Do | Truthout

Warren Buffet would agree with this along with many other super wealthy. Consumer driven markets are driven by demand for products. If the majority of consumers don't have the money to purchase products, demand stagnates and the entire economy suffers. Eventually it hits the wealthy also.

And why should they oblige...if not escape to more friendly climes as they are doing now?

Well rdean, your big government sure as hell doesn't create jobs.

au contraire mon ami, you've been sipping the Republican swill. Spit it out.

In 1958, President Eisenhower signed the Space Act, officially creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

NASA continues to spawn a vast array of new technologies and products that have improved our daily lives. In fact, NASA has filed more than 6,300 patents with the U.S. government [source: NASA Scientific and Technical Information].

Each year since 1976, NASA has published a list of every commercialized technology and product linked to its research. The NASA journal "Spinoff" highlights these products, which have included things like improved pacemakers, state of the art exercise machines and satellite radio. Each product was made possible thanks to a NASA idea or innovation.

SFC Ollie, it was General and President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the last Republican to leave office with a balanced budget. The man who created NASA. One of the greatest Presidents we have ever had. Don't demean his contribution in the drive to "hate" Obama and mindlessly agree with Republican morons.

Our nation was built around NASA inventions paid for by the government. Not only did that research create tens of thousands of jobs directly, but also the "support" for those jobs. Then add in all the jobs created by the many, many types of technology that came from the fruit of that research.

I won't even get into all the American infrastructure created by the government that led to jobs.

A really stupid Republican will say, "If you build a bridge, then once the bridge is built, the job is gone".

A really smart Republican will say, "If you build a bridge, then you connect communities which will lead to many new jobs".

Yes Sarge, it's just that easy.

It depends on who's running the oligarchy. An enlightened dictatorship is often better than democracy. Take Chile under Pinochet, for example.
Is it "enlightened" to "stand idly by and watch a country go Communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people(?)"

Do you think its enlightening to assassinate a duly elected president?

"In Santiago on September 11, 1973 I watched as Chilean air force jets flew overhead. Moments later I heard explosions and saw fireballs of smoke fill the sky as the presidential palace went up in flames. Salvador Allende, the elected Socialist president of Chile died in the palace.

Being wealthy doesn't make you a sound economist. the societies with the most scewed distribution of wealth are precisely the ones where the government interferes the most. In other words, the they are ones where liberalism is in full control. Free enterprise created the middle class, not government control and confiscatory taxation.
