Russia invaded Afghanistan and got their asses handed to them, no wonder Putin talks of peace the Russian military machine is a paper tiger.

They're losing the provinces that they forced into the Soviet Union, quit basically they are still weak and ineffective in world politics. Russians being peaceniks, don't you believe it for one second or they would not supply arms to the bad nations of the world, but you two faced RWers keep on supporting Putin, N. Korea, Iran, Syria, etc.

Dude, almost all of that happened about 20 years ago or more. Things have changed quite a bit since then. The Russian Republic has advanced jet fighters, modern tanks and a lot of old reserve divisions that can still be redeployed to about anywhere in the Eurasian continent.

Russia also control almost all the gas that heats Europe and a good portion of the petroleum as well.

Oh, and lets not forget their arsenal of nukes that they continue to give top priority to and modernize long after we stopped modernizing ours. Hell, it seems every other month we have a new corruption/incompetence scandal coming out about our nuclear force being incompetent, drug addled or just inoperative.

Our volunteer military has had trouble with recruitment for the last couple of years, only masked by our reduction of standing forces, and even then it has had impact. We have lost several destroyers since the fall of the Soviet Union, grounding one on a reef, for crying out loud then Obama decided to scuttle it rather than harm the reef, I kid you not. We have women under Obamas purged officer staff being put into combat roles for which they are not suited, and even in the Marine infantry.

Our once proud and feared military is being turn into a laughing stock of the world. A little nation like Syria stands up to us and says 'do your worst!' after our President threatens to hit them with air strikes. No one in the world fears the USA any more.

Russia is not a paper tiger, it is WE are fast approaching that status.
