D.O.J. Eric Holder sets new standards. Is there a need for affirmative action?

It began with the lawsuit brought on with 20 firefighters in New Haven Connecticut. Nineteen whites and one hispanic were denied advancement after passing a promotion exam, because too few minorities were able to pass. As a result, New Haven threw out the promotion tests used for lieutenants and captains for fear a lawsuit would site "the exams had a disparate impact on minorities violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act." The Obama Administration has responded by saying New Haven acted properly, and the Justice Department is committed in enforcing such laws. The United States Supreme Court didn't agree siting:
'employers needed a "strong basis in evidence" that a test is deficient before discarding the results, rather than just "raw racial statistics" that may indicate a subtle discrimination.'

However, the battle is far from over. The Dayton Police Department is being forced by The Department of Justice to lower standards required for new Police and Fire Department recruits. The new scores approved by the D.O.J. requires police officers to get a 58% and a 63%, in order to pass more black candidates, thats the equivalent of an 'F' and a 'D'. The NAACP doesn't support individuals failing a test to be given opportunities of employment. The issue is, which should become the greater standard for qualification or promotion? Where does that leave the qualifications of many doctors or nurses in the medical field? Should test scores become secondary to skin color? What is your view of the position taken by Eric Holder and the Obama Administration?

Well, Eric Holder said blacks were "my people."

He wants them to have jobs.

Even if whites are less safe as a result.

I think any white person in Dayton who voted for Obama and ends up a victim of crime deserves it.

It is the great failure of affirmative action. Setting standards based on race IS DISCRIMINATION. Period. This is simply wrong but speaks of a greater problem in the lefts ideology. The left looks at outcome and sees discrimination when outcome is not where you need to look. We provide equal opportunity, it is to the individuals to reach for the outcome and the color of that outcome is meaningless. The longer we support policies like this the harder it becomes to eliminate true racism.
