Cuban Goes to American Supermarket for the 1st time

No doubt the lack of food products in Cuba has a lot to do with the 60 years of US sanctions.

Old Joe continues those deadly sanctions on all the made up enemies of the empire, just as dumb Don did. Yet another example of how Joe and Don are very much alike.

Has nothing to do with sanctions. Cuba is free to trade with all kinds of other countries. Their problem is that it is a communist country where the average income is about 50 dollars a month. They have the same climate as DR and the DR only imports about 20% of their food supply, Cuba is the opposite. Modern agriculture is obsolete in Cuba because their is no profit to be made. Government buys the food and stocks the shelves that is why there is no Kroger or Publix.

PS. China is a communist nation. They have plenty of food. BOOM…there goes your silly argument.

You are both right. Of course the US sanctions has some to do with it, but anyone that has studied economics knows, a free market delivers better than a managed economy. The only ones that benefit from a planned economy are the folks at the top.

We have sanctions on Russia as well, but if you look at how they are doing before and after complete state control of their economy? The reason is clear.

Anyone that takes a simple economics class understands the reason for this. The market delivers goods and services better than a planned economy, that is all there is to it.

. . . there is something to be said about cartels manipulating the prices of some commodities, and blocking trade though, this is going on in Venezuela, Iran and other smaller economies like Cuba, and it is always just the poor that suffer, not the ruling elite.

Calling China a "communist nation," is sort of a misnomer at this point.

It is a one-party, dirigistic state, where the party makes unilateral decisions about which industries to nationalize, and which ones to privatize.

It is the first fully functioning technocracy.

You are a commie stooge idiot liar. I already told you other countries can ship food to Cuba. Why doesn't Cuba produce 80% of their own food like the DR?

True. However their government is communist and has been for a long time.

You will get no argument from me that communism has failed in numerous places. However the OP fails to recognize or even be aware of the harmful affects of US sanctions on Cuba. Secondly, the preponderance of nations in the world follow some form of capitalism. Yet, we have billions of people living in poverty. So, capitalism isn’t all that great.

Cuba should not have to import 1 oz of food.

The lack of food products in Cuba has a lot more to do with the Communist system there that fails to produce things for it's people than it does US sanctions. The ruling class in Cuba has luxury items...the average Cuban does not even know things like that exist!
If you believe that government control of everything is the answer...then you need to look at a place like Cuba and understand what that MEANS in real life!

IDK. I took a guy from NYC to a grocery store here in Dixie for the first time and he kind of spazzed out about how big it was and how much stuff they had. I made the mistake of telling him that wasn't even the biggest grocery only store in the city so we had to go there too. And from there, we went to our newly opened Walmart, which, at the time, was one of the largest in the US.

My point is, there are lots of variables. Land around here is comparatively cheap and plentiful so commercial buildings that want a lot of space can generally afford to buy as much as they want.

Cuba should be a tropical paradise, but the left wingers turned into a tropical hell.
Cuba could be a great vacation destination with capitalism.

Why no supermarkets in Cuba?
