Could This Be OPEC's Long-Term Goal?

An interesting piece on our Middle Eastern “ally” setting up things to keep the world oil market low to force American companies to stop drilling and making the USA self-sufficient.

Ain't it nice to have friends like this?

It can only work so far. If prices do drop too low, and the US companies have to start production, it wouldn't take to much of a price increase to get them back started. All the heavy work has been done at these locations, re-starting is easier than starting from scratch.

What may be impacted is future exploration, but a serious price increase would bring that back pretty quick too, and now you have a larger pool of trained workers to draw on. Any increase would be mitigated within a few years.

Logical. But ineffective long-term. Say that that happens and we cease exploration and drilling. Then OPEC raises prices. We just resume drilling. Not a very good long term plan as a result.

Once ISIS starts going after the Saudis, which they will eventually, you'll see prices go way back up.

We need to lift the damned export ban. There are already countries asking us to do so in order that they can wean themselves from unreliable and shady exporters like Iran and Russia.

How would this help us Americans on the whole? Wouldn't it be better for us to use our own oil from our own country and stop importing it from the crazy ass middle eastern countries? Instead, we are paying with the cost of the Military and Military's lives just for middle eastern oil?

After we fulfill our nation's consumption needs in the USA and what's right for our Nation, then we should open up US exports to help others....

Why don't you want America to get off the middle eastern teet? I thought this is what we wanted, to buy less oil from the unstable middle east? It would make America, more secure, was being said?

Is this kind of thinking flawed Mr. H, and if so, why?

How does exporting agricultural products help Americans as a whole? Wouldn't it be better to only grow the food that we need, then set aside the additional acres for planting trees, native grasses, and for returning lands to natural swampgrounds? :dunno:

It would go a long ways towards stemming "global warming".

We still import 9 million barrels of oil per day. We may as well import it from a close neighbor like... Canada.
But no, Obama no likey Keystone. Fuck that piece of shit.

Oil is a fungible commodity and it belongs on the world market. We are the only fucking nation on the planet that prohibits exports.

It's about throughput. The oil is spice, the spice is oil. The spice must flow...
