I called them wife beaters my entire life without considering the name.

When I finally did, I couldn't stop laughing.

Those shirts are far more common on hood rats and barrio bums. They're cheaper than full shirts. Walk through the barrios some time, and note the number of wives with missing front teeth while the males and kids all have nice teeth.
