Buddhists have a variety of purification practices. The Bodhisattva's Confession of Ethical Downfals is one of the most popular.

A complete practice consists of four opponent powers.

1. The power of regret for having done the negative action.

2. The power of reliance, taking refuge, which restoresour relationship with the holy
ones, generates an altruistic intention, and corrects our relatiionship to sentient
beings.

3. The power of the remedial action, (prostrations, offerings, recitation of prayers,
reading and contemplation the Dharma.

4. The power of the promise not to repeat the action.
