Closed Social Security offices, furloughed staff under GOP cuts, agency warns

Social Security was started by FDR as a way to sucker in middle America to the concept that they should not have to do their own retirement planning, but to allow the government to take care of their retirement instead. But if all that money taxed from Americans had been invested in the stock market instead of tossed down the government hole, Social Security could have provided very comfortable retirements for all who paid in, instead of the pittance it pays now. The whole program is a big piece of shit, and unfortunately people have bought into this shit and now the system is broke and there's no way to keep it going.

It was a Ponzi scheme from the get go.

“There would be up to two weeks of furloughs for all employees,” the agency said in information obtained by The Washington Post. “During this time, our offices would be closed to the public. Additionally, a full hiring freeze would cause service degradation and long wait times and delays

SO what?

We could cut every government agency's employee count by 10% and not even notice

I always enjoy the statists who threaten tax payers with a reduction of services if any form of fiscal responsibility is put forward....try to lower taxes....and instead of not giving money to political allies and pork projects.....we are going to take away your teachers, your police and your fire protection....and now social security...

Government can never be cut back...it must always grow and grow....and if you don't let it grow...you will be punished.....

SOP. Continually grow the budget with spending on increasingly inconsequential items, but threaten core spending that people have become dependent on for their very lives when it becomes obvious you can't continue spending at that level. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Obviously.........if anyone suggests targeting taxpayers for punishment if fiscal responsibility is suggested...then that person should be fired......1) for threatening their actual employer...the tax payer... and 2) incompetence due to their inability to make modest budget cuts without affecting their actual responsibilities.....

Nice boneheaded fear tactic...

From your link... I might add that the national debt is 19.4 trillion and the federal unfunded liabilities are quickly approaching 1 million per taxpayer.

It’s not like Social Security is operating in the flush now. Since 2010, its operating budget has shrunk 10 percent after inflation while the number of beneficiaries rose by 12 percent. President Obama has proposed an $11.1 billion administrative budget for fiscal year 2017, $522 million more than this year. House Republicans have proposed $772 million less than the president’s budget, according to SSA figures, while Senate Republicans would reduce agency spending by $582 million. The administrative budget is separate from the trust fund that pays benefits to recipients.

Not to mention the fact that half the Fed employees could disappear tomorrow and no one would notice.

Also notice they are furloughing these people. They will still get paid tax dollars even though they aren't at work. Such a fucking deal.
