The story in a nutshell is that china tried to bully Australia by refusing to buy Aussie coal
The expectation was that the Australians would be pressured into toeing the line diplomatically
Instead the Australians accepted the short-term pain snd found new buyers such as India
China OTOH has been buying desperately needed Aussie coal through 3rd parties and paying as much as double over the price they were paying
Now they want to buy directly from the source again but Australia is not selling
