Yes - bear spray is not perfect. The range is only 30 feet or so but guns have disadvantages too. Anyone can easily shoot a can of bear spray since they are silent and have no recoil and there is no need for great accuracy anyway. They are cheap - $40. And no threat of killing an innocent person.
Will some shooters then wear gas masks? Perhaps, but bear spray in the eyes is horrible and so the mask will have to cover their eyes too and the spray on the lenses will make it hard to see.

Not a bad idea, still, the best idea is to limit access into schools with monitors watching the entrances with metal detector wands and a simple search. Can't be too hard to tell a person is carrying a rifle, firearms and ammo! Until you get past the monitor, there is no entering the school.

Well, that is better than arming them with guns. However, that does not address the root of the problem. Which is, easy access to weapons of war by the mental cases. To do that, we should require anyone that wants to buy such a weapon to have a class 3 license. That should include any semiautomatic pistol that has a clip, unless that gun is equipped in such a manner that it requires at least two minutes to replace the clip. Since there are already millions of such weapons out there, simply make it illegal for anyone to possess such a weapon off their property without that license. With a mandatory penalty of five years in the federal pen, possibility of parole in 6 months. And confiscation and destruction of all their guns, with the provision that they will never be able to own or have in their possession a firearm for the rest of their lives. And the sale of such weapons be allowed by and to only those with said license, private or otherwise. Same penalty should they break this law. What is wrong with our society, where we find it acceptable that school shooting are almost a weekly occurrence? What is wrong with us that we talk of armed guards at churches, schools, mall, and anywhere in society in general? No other nation has this problem. This was not a problem when I was going to school.
Every time there is a mass shooting, no matter whether and outdoor music concert, school, church, or work place, the NRA and GOP states the answer is more guns, and more people carrying guns. And so guns sales increase with each mass shooting, and then the frequency of mass shooting increase. Perhaps we need to rethink that mantra.
