"Voters in New York City easily approved three ballot measures proposed by leaders of the city's Racial Justice Commission. Residents of the nation's largest city voted to create a new racial-equity bureaucracy that will include a chief equity officer, following the advice of the commission that was created last year by former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The first proposal residents passed will add a preamble to the city charter that acknowledges the city has a "grave" history of "injustices and atrocities," while declaring the city will be "just and equitable city for all" and that "diversity is our strength." The measure passed with 72.3% of the vote, according to the unofficial results from the city's Board of Elections.

Another proposal, which passed with 69.8% of the vote, approved the amendment of the city charter to establish an Office of Racial Equity that will be headed by a chief equity officer. The newly created office will be tasked with a racial-equity commission that will guide the city's racial justice priorities and require all city agencies to produce a racial-equity plan every two years.

The third proposal, which passed with 81% of the vote, requires the city to establish a cost of living metric that will "provide a clearer picture of the racial wealth gap" in New York City, which will "guide the City’s decisions as it develops and administers programs and services."

The de Blasio-created commission behind the measures released its report in December, with its leaders arguing that the proposals were merely "steps toward justice" in the city."

The coming implosion of the big blue cities like NYC is going to make for some solid entertainment as the idiots fight to survive long enough to get out.

I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

I escaped. :p

So many decent, law abiding people have left NYC that the voting power is with the criminals. Up until now criminals can freely commit crimes without fear of punishment. The next step is to criminalize refusing to be a victim. That's what equity is all about.

Let the exodus continue. Special rights and privileges for those without the backbone to prosper and succeed on their own.

You think for a second anyone read those proposals?

The thing is with these open-ended proposals is ... voters passed a non-specific, feel-good, Kumba-ya measure with very little specific legislative impact except, the establishment of commissions and commissioners.

If a ballot proposal was put forth to say, "We're going to take from some to give to those we feel got a rough deal in the past", then it would have gone down in flames when voters realized that most them were "the some".

But, the un-elected commissioners now have power to create legislation that will impact every voter in NYC. In fact, they will have to do this or else be accused of not doing their jobs.

I remember well how rent-control and other feel-good legislation destroyed the NYC housing market, saw an explosion in high-crime public housing blocks, and generally destroyed NYC until property developers found a way around it.

I think NYC is in for a lot more of that type of legislation in the future.
