Federal funding is a very small part of funding for public schools. Localities need to decide they don't want their property taxes to go toward funding nonsense for any real change to take place.

How how is this even acceptable today

The principal said she asked a teacher involved in the incident how to proceed with disciplinary action:

"He asked me to educate on transgender. It was well received from students and parents. [Restorative justice] will happen after suspension."

"Restorative justice," as the school district describes it, is a process in which officials...

bring harmed and harmers together to address root causes of the conflict, support accountability for those responsible, and promote healing for impacted individuals.

Gee I wonder how that's gonna go for the two kids
