David Dimbleby presents a special edition of Question Time from Birmingham - Britain after Brexit. On the panel are secretary of state for exiting the EU David Davis, shadow secretary of state for exiting the EU Sir Keir Starmer, former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, former first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, deputy chair of Ukip Suzanne Evans and Times columnist Melanie Phillips.

After Brexit?

The Scots, Welsh, and Irish and any Picts who want to join in - they are going to invade England and put all the English into fucking indentured servitude.

About fucking time!

Yesterday I formally wrote to Donald Tusk to give effect to the democratic decision of the people of the United Kingdom who voted decisively to leave the European Union.

At this moment of profound significance for the United Kingdom, I want to assure you that this decision was no rejection of the values we share with our European friends, least of all the Republic of Ireland.

Theresa May: I want Ireland and the UK to have a stronger relationship after Brexit

I'm an American, so a neutral observer. What does the UK produce or provides that anyone wants?

The UK makes cars, but they are only made in the UK because the parts to make the cars can be imported to the UK and the cars sold throughout the EU without customs duties, because the EU is a single nation commercially. That will end. And, the owners of the manufacturing plants are not UK companies. They will move to an EU state.

The UK provides financial services, banking etc. The UK financial services companies rely on having a passport to the EU which makes them equal to similar companies in any other EU state. That will end. The companies providing these services will move to the EU.

The UK has an established drug industry that sells to the EU. Many of the companies are foreign that use the UK as a base to sell to the EU market. That will end. The drug companies will move to an EU state.

Do you really think that a country of 60 million will have any leverage over the 450 plus million people of the EU?

Good luck selling Marmite and fish and chips to yourselves. You people are certainly a stupid bunch.

Plus, it looks like the UK will consist of England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland will probably leave.

And no, the UK will not get a better deal with the EU than they have now.

Theresa May's objectives will probably be a major disappointment to UK. They just want to rid of their responsibilities. Especially on immigration.

There are still some deluded souls who think that it will turn out "ok".

Why would it ?

The EU is a club and membership of the club brings privileges. Why would they confer those on non members ?
The only way the UK will get a decent deal is by agreeing to retain the key points of membership. Freedom of movement and so on.
Which begs the question - why bother in the first place ?

The freedom of movement is what they won't keep. They don't want it on people because they want to decide for their own policy on immigrants and if they don't take it why would they have the rest? Nor are they going to accept to belong to European economic area even if it was offered. They will become a third state in trade. But some don't seem to know that. However, that is basically what Theresa May said recently.

What is astonishing is that Britain is taking such a major constitutional change with multifaceted ramifications when 48% of the voters rejected Brexit. About half the population are being disregarded among whom are predominantly the young voters who will be living with the consequences. Also, it is not known why a marginally larger number voted for Brexit so while some wanted fewer Europeans working in Britain, others might have not minded this but wanted out of the European Court of Justice, or still others cared only about a need for more democratic oversight of the Commission by the European Parliament. The way all this is being done defies logic.

The hardcore racists want everyone deported. The rest all know someone who has settled here. They are appalled that may is using them as human pawns.
However they are the only chip that the UK is holding. We have no other hold on Europe.
It's an absolute mess.
