Brief synopsis of last night's debate

O'Malley stands somewhere between 0 and 1% in the polls. Sander's is certainly not going to support O'Malley over Clinton. That would be insane. As in most primaries when the leading candidate ranks higher in the polls than all the other candidates combined, the primary becomes about selecting a VP running mate.

Also, well stated.....As a liberal democrat. my problem is that I really don't like Hillary, while fully realizing that Sanders....for all his current populist message.....is still a long shot; so, I would agree that if Sanders would eventually pull out, where will his support go (I'm sure he'll encourage his followers to back Hillary, but I'm really not too comfortable with that.........)....So. right now, I'm uncommitted.

NOTE TO RIGHT WINGERS......You may notice how a civil debate is conducted among us left-leaning voters.....

They are all socialists, boring as hell and old.
Re hashing same old problems, never really getting anything done and just putting band aids on things.
That is not a civil debate.
What happened to the Dem's being the party of youth during Obama's campaign for 2008?
It'll be funny when they win the youth vote again. For the umpteenth consecutive time.
Progressive agenda's always seem to attract the young because they are looking forward while conservative agendas are looking backwards.

hilarious really!!
who wants WWII-era tax rates on the top brackets?

who wants protectionist trade policies like Republicans wanted in the 1920's?

who pines for the mafia-infested unions of a few decades ago?
who wants wide-open borders like in the first half of the 1800s???
I've haven't heard any candidate suggest a 90% tax. The only candidates with a protectionist policies are Trump and Sanders.. Over and over, conservatives seek to reduce government benefits. They continue to voice their opinion that Social Security is the worst mistake this country has made with Medicare a close second. Conservatives seek to turn back the clock to those good old days of pure capitalism with no government interference. They seek to return America to Anglos with mass deportations. Most young people want to build upon what we have now, not start all over again. They want progress which is why they vote for the progressive agenda of Democrats.

That was, as the Donald would say, a very low-energy affair.

I agree.

None of them came out of it looking like a winner. And none of them talked about what matters and the plans they have for what they didn't talk about.

No winners in that debate.

LOL, a perfect description of both Republican debates; The Dems debate was substantive, as everyone with both feet in reality understand.

Yes indeed, it was a great debate. Each candidate explained how they would expand the welfare government dependency state. You must have loved it.
Keep swallowing the propaganda from greedy idiot Pub billionaires...Welfare has only been expanded by the ruin of the nonrich in this country by Reaganism and the Bush Depression. We and New Guinea are the only 2 countries without paid parental leave. Thanks Pubs and silly dupes.

There you go, upset that we Republicans didn't expand the welfare state. And yes, making other people pay for parental leave is the welfare state. And no, Lesotho and Swaziland are tied with us for not having parental leave.

Another illustration of how far out of step Republicans are with voters.
A large majorities of voters of all persuasions said they are in favor of paid sick days, equal pay for equal work and affordable child and elder care, and 73 percent say the government has a responsibility to ensure employers treat employees fairly by providing them with such policies. About 70 percent said that workplace laws and policies are out of synch with the changing realities of modern families, and with the changing roles of men and women at work and at home.

And 81 percent – 94 percent Democrats, 80 percent of Independents and 65 percent of Republicans – agree that workplace rules to ensure equal pay, paid time off to care for family members and affordable child care “is good for our nation.”

Don't blame politicians for the increase in the welfare state. Blame the public because that is exactly what they want.

Voters want paid leave, paid sick days, poll shows. Obama, too. Will Congress oblige?

Chafee, O'Malley and Webb are out
(perhaps Webb would make an excellent Sec. of Defense)
O'Malley......Looks presidential but has no wiggle room between Sanders and Clinton (perhaps an excellent candidate for the Dept. of Energy.)
Chafee's best line (paraphrased): "I didn't leave the GOP, the GOP left me"......
(Very, very true thanks to the Tea Partiers.)

Sanders (feisty Brooklynite and a favorite of the young.....but like Ron Paul perhaps off the mainstream voter bloc who simply does NOT understand the meaning of social democrat)

Clinton (not my favorite candidate) is UNBEATABLE, not only within the Democratic Party's nomination but certainly can beat the daylights out of any of the GOP clown posse.)

Sure, there will be right wingers still desperately calling for her incarceration, but the smarter ones well know that is just wishful thinking. Bottom line: No GOP'er in the WH for another decade.

Of course they do. When you rob Peter to pay Paul, the Paul's of your society generally have no objection.

How do you suppose those same people would respond if Hillary said that their employers should buy them a new car, house or renters insurance, a new swimming pool, a paid two week Vegas trip? I bet you would get the same results.

I would like my employer to have me work two days a week but pay me for five. Do you think the Democrats could help me there?

Oh, and BTW, we already have laws on the book for equal pay. They were passed in the early 1960's. But Democrat politicians are born liars and realize their constituency group would never look that up. So they dupe their voters into thinking no such laws ever existed.

The way you framed the debate is dishonest. We (once) had a government of the people, for the people and by the people. Today we have a government of callous conservatives, of the power elite, for the power elite and (paid for) by the power elite.

That you are too dumb to understand this is pitiful.

We still have a country of the people, by the people and for the people, we just have to get rid of Commie liberals that think "for the people' means giving them things they should be giving themselves.

You're full of shit. Anyone who uses the phrase "Commie liberals" has never had an original thought in their life. You're simply an echo of right wing propaganda, too dumb to have an opinion formed from within.

Really? Would you like the reports of the Commies supporting Obama and the liberal agenda? I have them you know. Just ask.

Your hate and fear permeate all of your posts. Using pejoratives as if they prove anything beyond ignorant biases puts you in the same set with other dumb and inarticulate people; it is tantamount with those who want to label all conservatives Nazi, racist and stupid (of course some seem to fit those categories quite well).

I've yet to read a post from a liberal/progressive Democrat calling for anything but legitimate rights for the working men and women of this country - those who shower after work not before.

No one in my experience posting on this message board, in the White House or in the Democratic Caucus is calling for the nationalization of the oil and coal industry, or the pharmaceutical medical industry; very few want to repeal the 2nd A. and confiscate all guns in our Country.

Most of the demands, such as OWS and gun control are common sense / pragmatic solutions to on going problems, some over a century in the making. Only fringe factions demand radical change, and these exist on both the far right and the far left. Most Americans find both anathema, as do I.

You call everyone who disagrees with your sense of reality, distorted as it is, a moron. Doing so is not a rebuttal or refutation, and suggesting my comment was, "a laughable case study in projection and denial" is a personal attack and deserving of an "F" in a HS freshman course teaching expository writing.

Clueless was a euphemism for what I truly believe, based on your writing you seem to be quite dumb.

You do (or should) realize that you're ONLY speaking for the same closeted racists that stand little chance for the WH for at least another decade, and with the 24 seats for tight wingers to "defend" next year, your ilk will lose control of that chamber.

BTW, where are those "jobs, jobs, jobs": that you morons promised if elected in 2014?

morons like you on the Left so full of yourselves are a dime a dozen

.....and, without realizing you just CONFIRMED that those "dime a dozen" will help to beat the crap of your clown posse by the sheer number.....All you got on your side is a bunch of grumpy, white male evangelicals and a few women who don't know that they're being screwed....royally.

Indeed....I would trust more a politician that honestly states: "I will try to......because I believe in...."

Than the morons like Trump who openly state: " I will do......"

Since we are a system of compromises in governing, any statement that smack of the latter, is viewed by me as simple PANDERING.

moronic Progressive douchebags idea of "for the People" means goverment takes everything from everybody (either you give it up willingly or they take it forcefully),and gives "the People" back what the government deems they should have, no more and no less.

Yes indeed.

"Liberals believe that if you make money, you are not entitled to it, but if you want money--you are."
Ken Blackwell
The amazing lengths the dupes will go to protect the ridiculous wealth of megarich Pubs and giant corps who screw them every day. READ sig.

It's not protecting anybody. We believe that all people should be treated equal unlike liberals who believe in dividing the country, and then deciding who gets what.

So you tell me, who is greedier: A man that makes money and wishes to keep what he made, or a man that doesn't make anything and wishes to take the money from the man that made it?
When everyone is taxed about the same- like NOW, dupe- 99% of new wealth goes to the 1%.

Everybody is taxed the same now? What planet are you living on?

Nearly half of you people don't even pay income tax in this country. Where do you get taxed the same from?

If 99% of the new wealth goes to the 1%, that means only 1% of the wealth goes to the 99% of us.

Of course we both know you are lying, but that's typical of your kind.
If you count ALL taxes and fees, EVERYONE (every quintile) pays between 20 and 30% of their income. Read something, Pub dupe.

The Left, because Pubs are fantastic obstructionists and propagandists/con men, the Right because they're FOS.

No, they want Socialism because it relieves them of responsibility; the same reason anybody would prefer socialism.

Indeed....I would trust more a politician that honestly states: "I will try to......because I believe in...."

Than the morons like Trump who openly state: " I will do......"

Since we are a system of compromises in governing, any statement that smack of the latter, is viewed by me as simple PANDERING.
Unfortunately, promises are what get candidates elected. A candidate's real record of achievements and failures in office is always dismal compared to their promises. This is why complete neophytes such as Trump or Carson appeal to the public. They have no record in public office to defend against attacks from the opposition so they can devote themselves to promising their followers whatever they want to hear.

I saw an add posted for a bookkeeper that had nearly a full page of required qualification. The qualification for president can be stated in just one sentence. The President must: be at least 35 years of age. be a natural-born citizen, and. be a resident of the United States for at least 14 years. And of course the ability to convince voters that he or she is faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound!
