Breaking: DNC Asks Pentagon For Records on 2012 Obama Challengers Palin & Romney..WTF

I understand your reaction to this, USArmyRetired, but I doubt you get the nuances. FOI Act requests have to be responded to within a timeframe set by law. Any citizen can make one, and the DNC is not a government agency. Obama may not have even known about this.

Personally I'll be shocked if there actually is any such correspondence, but if it exists, there's nothing sinister about asking for copies.

What do you suppose they're going to do with anything they get?

That does not matter, Daveman. We live in an Open Democracy and apart from Top Secret materials (and some personnel files, trade secrets deposited by companies with the government and a few other exceptions that don't apply) anything you or I or the DNC or any other citizen wants a copy of is ours. We can wallpaper the bath with it, if we like.

That's OUR government, and those are OUR documents.

This takes the cake. They even want it before the midterm elections on Nov 2nd. Now what we are seeing is hypocrisy at its finest. Obama never released records or correspondence pertaining to him but the DNC who never vetted Obama wants to see Palins, Romney and 5 other potential challengers records. I say lets see Obama's records first. After all, Obama vowed to be the most transparent president ever.

Exclusive: Democrats Ask Pentagon for Information on Potential Obama 2012 Contenders - ABC News

DNC Requests Records Related to Palin, Romney, Seven Other Possible 2012 Contenders.

The Democratic National Committee formally has asked the Pentagon for reams of correspondence between military agencies and nine potential Republican presidential candidates, a clear indication that Democrats are building opposition-research files on specific 2012 contenders even before the midterm elections.

An internal Army e-mail obtained by ABC News indicates that the DNC has filed Freedom of Information Act requests for "any and all records of communication" between Army departments and agencies and each of the nine Republicans -- all of whom are widely mentioned as possible challengers to President Obama.

The agencies are asked to respond to the request by this Friday, just four days before Election Day...

Oh please, Madelbrain, even YOU can't have that naive!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Do you think Palin or whoever knows every move Michael Steele makes? That is not how a party chair's office works, TPS.

I'll tell you what they're going to do:

They're going to distort and lie about what's in the documents to make oh-so-outraged press releases and attack ads.

Useful idiots will believe the lies and distortions, and post oh-so-outraged threads on message boards in blue Book Antiqua font.
That's OUR government, and those are OUR documents.
Like Obama's birth certificate and college transcripts?

No, vital records are private. Would you rather every illegal alien be allowed to pull YOUR birth certificate without your knowledge or consent? College transcripts, for some of the same reasons, are also exempt/private -- plus few colleges could properly be viewed as "a government agency".

Freedom Of Information law only applies to the federal government, although most states have a version called Public Records. Again, each body of law ONLY applies to a government agency's records....but those records include documents deposited with them by any person.

If the documents exist...how would it be easy to "distort and lie" when these documents are quite accessable? I would think that if one is going to "distort and lie", they WOULD NOT want those documents available....don't you?

Just another abuse of power coming from the Socialists/Progressives. I'm not surprised by this. Shame on anyone who defends this. When the tables turn i'm pretty sure those who are defending this, will have a completely different opinion. Socialists/Progressives are dishonest hypocrites for the most part.

And your problem with this is? It is apparently an 'above the board' request in accordance with the freedom of information act. I don't have a problem with it.

So does this mean Watergate was OK?

You know better than that. If a Democrat does something, it's perfectly angelic. If a Republican does the same thing, it's evil from Satan's armpit.

Watergate was a botched burglary that Nixon attempted on the DNC headquarters, and a cascade of events that flowed from it. It is off-point in a discussion of Freedom Of Information Act law.

The FOI Act is like 70 years old, genius.

Freedom of Information Act

Come on now Madeline, you know how open this administration has been. I have no problem with FOI. But we know that any info that the Dems get will be twisted for their own use. Same as I'm sure the Republicans will do, after they know for sure who their opponents will be.

Doesn't matter. The useful idiots will believe what they're told, and repeat it as gospel.

They're immune to the truth.

What difference does that make, Dave? Are you suggesting that the US Gov't should refuse to honor the DNC's FOI request?

I imagine they hope to use them to embarrass the writers, but if the government could refuse to turn over documents that might embarrass someone on that "ground" all by itself, what would be left to us, as citizens, to be able to request as is our right?
