Since it is one of the links on the Drudge Report today, DRUDGE REPORT 2011® (this piece): TSA Changes Pat-Down Procedure at Airports - ABC News (The "Big Sis" linkie), I decided to go back and take another look see.
The images always seemed a bit benign to me. Yeah yeah. If a guy has a small problem, even in the body scanner image, that problem might be revealed, but the fucking pictures look so artificial, who really cares?
But THEN I recalled having seen a suggestion that the images on the screen can be SAVED (and have been saved despite assurances that they can't be saved or brought back up). And then I remembered a claim that they can be "manipulated" to show a more true body image.
I did a Google search and found one of the images of an attractive women (I presume a model) who permitted herself to be scanned. THEN -- and this is the thing -- the image can be INVERTED (like turning a picutre into a negative or a negative into a normal picture).
What I discovered was very surprising. I'm not entirely sure I can put the image up on a family-friendly board.
The model -- seen in INVERTED view of the negative scan -- appears to be naked. It is such a clear picture, for example, that I can make out what seems to be a nipple ring on her right breast. The rear view only fails to show her ass crack because it is covered up with a handgun.
I won't offer the image, but here's the link for those who want to check it out for themselves. DISINFORMATION: Inverted Body Scanner Image Shows Naked Body In Full Living Color - JustGetThere
STOP! The part in RED, here, is me editing BEFORE I submit this post for the first time. I just read that linked article and DISCOVERED that the image is a SCAM! HIGHLY INFORMATIVE READ.
What I was GOING to write continues below in normal font and color. BUT, I think this piece is helpful to the full discussion since it shows that the "inverted" the "negative" alarm is probably FALSE.
It's like a lazy man's cheap porn. But that's not really the point. The point, to MY way of thinking, is whether I want some highly qualified and skilled TSA employee looking at my wife or my daughter with that machine.
The "alternative" is a pat down that involves the "palms" of the TSA searcher's hands on the areas of possible concealment. {"Pardon me, ma'am, may I fondle your boobs and crotch?"} I know I don't want my wife or daughter getting molested just to fly a plane to visit family down South.
bottom line? I think we need to get both serious about security AND simultaneously serious about personal privacy rights. There has to be a better solution or set of solutions than these two options.
