RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Dozens of students, activists in the Islamic bloc at Birzeit University, continue in their sit-in, protesting the campaign of arrests and summonses against them by the Palestinian Authority’s preventive security apparatus in the West Bank, for fifteen days in a row, at the University campus.

The spokesman for the protesters, Saiid Kasrawi, has declared that he and his colleagues are determined to continue their sit-in inside their university until the end of the arrests and summonses campaign launched by the security apparatus against members of the Islamic bloc on the background of their political activities.

Kasrawi said that this campaign undermines all the guarantees and pledges which were given to the Islamic bloc under the auspices of the Palestinian Legislative Council, the Independent Commission for Citizens' Rights, and the Freedoms Committee, on the one hand, the Office of the Interior Minister in Ramallah and the leaders of the security services in the West Bank, on the other hand.

He noted that the intelligence service in Ramallah launched arrest campaigns against students belonging to the Islamic bloc, on the fifth of May, on the background of a rally organized by the bloc in solidarity with the hunger striking prisoners in the occupation jails.

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Islamic bloc at Birzeit University declared on Monday that it ended its sit-in in the university campus after it had received guarantees to stop political arrests against its members.

The protestors' representative, Said Kasrawi, said, in an exclusive statement to PIC, that the bloc has decided to suspend the sit-in, which lasted nearly a month when PM of West Bank's government, Salam Fayyad, his interior minister and the leadership of the security services had promised the bloc, before the Legislative Council and the public freedoms' Committee, to stop arresting, prosecuting and pursuing the students.

Kasrawi added that this is considered as an achievement for the Islamic Bloc, which was determined to continue the sit-in until its demands are met and stressed that they will resume the sit-in if the security services do not stop its violations and political arrests.
