As A Black Person Why Should I Celebrate the 4th of July?

Okay. So when was the last time someone forced you to pick cotton.

Hey, you know what, when my Grandpappy Ludwig came over here, I'm sure there were people who called him a Kraut and a Hun... and you know what, it really has no effect on my life today.

Now, if you want to have a discussion about how to resolve today's problems, I'm good with that. But I'm also happy to live in a country where we can have those discussions.
What does picking cotton have to do with not celebrating the 4th?

I'm not asking about how to resolve todays problems. I'm asking for reasons Black people should celebrate the 4th.

Some Whites particularly Irish, and Scots-Irish were picking cotton right next to Blacks, as Indentured Servants, who chose slavery of a temporary manner, over squalor, poverty, and famine in Ireland.
and that has what to do with the 4th of July and Black people?

Well, unlike a lot of Blacks, Mexicans, Natives, etc. etc. not a whole lot of Irish are so anti-Forth of July.

Well, do you have any proof that White peasants were in worse conditions than Black slaves?

On the contrary, the fact that the Black U.S.A slave population grew faster than every single White country in Europe purely speaks volumes.

Now, tell us if someone starving in Ireland in the Famine, or in Ukraine during the Holodomor, were somehow in better "Conditions" than Black slaves who were fed?

The White peasants simply were replaced, if they starved to death.

Black slaves being property, while perhaps harsh in some ways, especially in terms of freedom, did mean there was some kind of meal supported for them to excel to profit.

My neighbor came over and asked if I was going to do fireworks today. I told her no and that I do not celebrate the 4th. She asked me why and I told her I didnt want to spoil her fun. She insisted I tell her and I eventually relented. I told her that my ancestors were still enslaved on this day even though a man that looked like me was the first to die in defense of this country.
The 4th of July is a celebration of our country's freedom from British rule. Many black people celebrate by attending firework displays, bbqs etc, as well as having the day off from work. If someone chooses to not celebrate, that is okay too, this country gives you that freedom to chose.
No its not. Its a celebration of the declaration of independence.

Not possible since they signed up for it. Slavery is a totally different animal.

Indentured Servants were basically temporary slaves by choice, if people were slaves by choice, it really says some people probably had it worse than that back then.

It must really suck to have to drag around that burdensome modifier "black" wherever you go from day to day. I know it probably doesn't get old to you because that's what you identify with, but it sorta gets old to everyone else who has to hear it over and over again.

You might have missed it, but there was once this guy named "Martin Luther King." He once visualized a country where a person would just be a "person.", regardless of their color. You might take some time out and go to your local library and read up on him. He had some interesting ideas.

I don't see how it's "empowering", being black. After all, you Democrats lost the most important election of your lifetimes.

Now it might be "empowering" to be a Republican or a conservative right now, because we own this shit. But please, don't equate "republican" or "conservative" with "white", because there are plenty of black Republicans and conservatives. We are after all, the ones who held a Civil War to stop slavery, enacted constitutional qualities, and voted for Civil Rights in the 60's.

Indeed, in fact, the British Empire had taken more Black slaves from Africa than the U.S.A had.

Early America didn't have the kind of power, and money that Britain had.

IMO, This just means that Britain would have had even a lot more slaves than that.

I've never like the fourth. I have always thought it was hypocritical.
Like Christmas? How many really celebrate Christmas for its true meaning? It is about decorating to enjoy the look, buying present to appease the expectations and another reason for days off work and time to drink and/or pig out.

They were criminals by choice. and no they were not basically slaves. They were considered humans while chattel slavery considered Blacks as chattel.
