Story still developing. Arrest made.

Can we now talk about the mental illness affecting our youth? The breakdown of our culture?
Or will it just be the gun? This problem IMHO is far deeper than a weapon.

The media wants to jump on whatever politicians wagon is giving them the stories first yhey dont have a care about truth.
And no blood spilled in Orono or Waseca 2 years ago. Guess that isn't news worthy.

It was a suicide so they done it on school property

Here in Kentucky two different kids have been arrested for making false threats to do school shootings in Laurel County. Then some donors offered to pay for metal detectors for the schools, and the school TURNED THEM DOWN.

Most of those kids are just joking but now that it's becomes a serious matter every incident is taken as real

My question becomes is it only a false report because no blood is actually spilled? What the hell is wrong with these kids to even entertain the idea at all?

With good reason. This is not a joking matter. These kids lack the mental skills to see that.

And some grown-ups deal with their frustration and fears with jokes

There is no joke, when calling in a threat to a school.
No gun was found today. But in Waseca bomb making materials were found.
There should be criminal charges for any threat made regardless if it was a "joke".

It's very telling on how the usual anti-gun zealots have absolutely nothing to say about the breakdown of culture.
If today's nutjob carried this out the one issue crowd would be all over the story calling for more bans.
Confirms my view that no one really want's to examine what the hell is really going on with youth these days.

That's unreal. Did they state why?

They just said they didn't think they needed it yet. They also said that it would force kids to be grouped outside the school waiting to go through the metal detector, and could put them in danger.

Just counted 19 threads related to Fl. Shooting and guns.
Attempted to start a conversation about more than one issue as root cause of a sickness of society that has led to violent acts by youth not seen decades ago. The possible media and pharmaceutical culpability, and cultural decay and permissiveness, loss of personal responsibility as possible explanations as to the "why" that everyone claims they want to know.

It's very apparent that our media and the public really can't handle the why.
Social media has corrupted the adults as well.
Guess it's platitudes until the next one, followed by the same soundbites. #Pretty sad :(

/----/ I wish this was from the Onion, but sadly it's true.

Student Faces Expulsion After Saying a Math Symbol Looks Like a Gun
Students at the Oberlin High School in Oberlin, La., caused an uproar when they spread rumors about a boy who had joked about a square root symbol looking like a gun. A joke quickly became a tall tale that claimed this boy had planned to attack the school with guns and bombs. The Allen Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call from KPLC, saying they had received an anonymous tip claiming there was going to be a major shooting involving the jokester.
