Arizona immigration law has not lived up to reputation

The nation's toughest immigration law has been in effect for three months. But after the federal courts prevented key portions from going into effect, it has failed to live up to both opponents' worst fears and supporters' greatest hopes. Immigrant-rights groups and major Arizona law-enforcement agencies say they've heard of no arrests made or citations issued using the statutes created under Senate Bill 1070, and no Arizona resident has taken advantage of the portion of the law that allows them to sue an official or agency that is not enforcing federal immigration law to the fullest extent. The law that went into effect on July 29 is a shadow of its original self. The day before, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton halted four key provisions from going into effect, including the portion of the law that requires a police officer to verify a person's status when there is reasonable suspicion that the subject is an undocumented immigrant. Gov. Jan Brewer is appealing Bolton's ruling, and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments from both sides Monday in San Francisco. But several state statutes created under SB 1070 went into effect on July 29. Individuals on both sides of the issue said after Bolton's ruling that the law still had teeth.

I wonder if instead of it being Mexico, it were Sweden, and Swedish persons were illegally entering the USA, would the government by now had a wall built, because it was a bunch of white people coming in? Just curious. What say you?

This argument is so fucking rediculous!! Give me a fucking break do you honestly think white folk just band together and only have issues with brown/dark brown folk invading? Ever delved into European history per chance? I could list many of the boundary wars that went on for centuries between white folk but why not look it up and educate yourself... Hell while you're at it you can also discover that Invaders of any color/religion/culture/wealth are severly frowned upon throughout all of the world.

There will ALWAYS be those who make EVERYTHING a race issue - ho-hum.

Why the fuck would Swedens need to flock to any other country to live a better life. They're not living in a insanely corrupt nation with drug cartels running the show with mass killings every week, not to mention the poverty levels.

So yea, we'll worry about Sweden when its a third world country with most of its population wishing it was in the US. Not holding my breath.

Appeals court shot down the most important aspects of SB1070, what is left to live up to?

Appeals court begins SB 1070 hearingsBy Uriel J. Garcia November 1, 2010 at 10:14 pm

Arizona’s immigration law finally got its day in court after being watered down in July.

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments for and against Senate Bill 1070 on Monday. Debate included whether Arizona could enforce immigration laws without conflicting with federal law. The proceedings were broadcast live on C-SPAN.

Chill out fella. It was just a question as to whether the wall would have been built or not if it were whites trying to invade. I just used Swedes, as an example. Some peoples kids.

Good for Joe.

It's pretty hilarious listening to the racists moronically whining about 'profiling', to say the least, as if we should all pretend most of the criminal illegal aliens are Mongolian or German. The PC Thought Police are getting pretty desperate, as more an more people are ignoring their stupidity and hypocritical sniveling and they're losing seats in both Houses and are facing losing a lot of that pork to other pockets.

It's only a matter of time before the citizens take the law into their own hands. When this happens, the local authorities on our side of the border will simply look the other way.

It remains to be seen how the GOP will handle illegal immigration. First they should define the issue as just that; illegal. This would force those on the left to defend illegal immigration. The charges from the left will be the usual twofold declarations that conservatives are both racists and uncaring. RINOs will tend to fold and compromise but true conservatives will stand on principle and demand the law either be enforced or repealed. This framing of the issue should throw it back on the left who will then, rightly, be considered in favor of illegal immigration.

The country is mostly center-right and Independents in the last election favored a conservative law and order approach by a wide margin. Conservatives will then be able to address the question of 'sanctuary' cities (San Francisco) and Obama law enforcement officials like AG Holder and especially INS's (Immigration and Naturalization Service) enforcement arm's (ICE) head honcho John Morton who said he would not enforce federal law against those individuals found in violation should AZ's law collar them. All this can work in favor of conservative candidates if approached in a calm and common sense manor in 2012. After all, will Obama really want to appear For illegal immigration come the next presidential election? This should be in conjunction with efforts such as Photo ID's and states clearing their election rolls to prevent voter fraud.

Who knows, maybe this Congress can be really useful and repeal the law that outlaws the incandescent light bulb!;)
