Another Good Month On The Jobs Front...unemployment Drops To 5.9%

How does me stating a fact equal rooting for the economy to fail? We all know you're not rooting for the economy, you're rooting for Obama.

I find it odd that the same conservatives who were telling us that the unemployment rate was the most important economic factor in Obamas first term are now telling us that the Labor Participation Rate is now the most important factor

You are aware that the Labor Participation Rate has been dropping for 15 years aren't you?

Whqt are you saying? The labor partician later does count anymore? The fact is a smaller percentage of Americans are working today then when Obozo took office.

What I am saying is that conservatives paid no attention to the Labor Participation Rate when it was plummeting under Bush

Why? Because it has been expected to drop for the last 50 years. Baby boomers are retiring and dropping out of the workforce

Stop being an ass Rocko and be glad that we had good employment numbers last month

Forget about republican and Democrat for a second, when looking at something as complex as the economy it's foolish to believe that one indicator tells the whole story. Now politically, it was stupid for the Republicans to put all their eggs in one basket with the unemployment numbers, but that doesn't change the fact that we are worse off since Obozo took office.

Unemployment has dropped over 4% under Obama. How is that not better?

Smaller percentage of the population working, more food stamps, disability, defIcits, debt, poverty, etc..

The labor force participation rate is not the percentage of the population that's working.

You are correct. And the Civilian Employment to Population Ratio has been a disaster under Obama as well.

More people DROPPED OUT of the Labor Force than found jobs (many of those being low wage part time ones).

315,000 quit, lowering the Labor Force Participation Rate to 62.7%, the lowest level since February 1978.

Hopenchange!

How many of those were retirements. Your number means nothing until we are to subtract those numbers from the 315,000.

5.9 is 5.9, and that is good news.

However, it needs to get better, the recovery is still not robust.

Economy gains 248 000 jobs as hiring rebounds

The labor market rebounded sharply in September as employers added 248,000 jobs, the second largest gain for any month this year.
The unemployment rate fell to 5.9% from 6.1%, lowest since July 2008, the Labor Department said Friday.

Thank you, Mr. President.

And a pox on the damn Republicans who have worked tirelessly to screw over the American worker.

I've addressed this topic in other threads. The LFPR for retirement age workers has increased - people who can't afford to retire are continuing to work.

The LFPR has dropped for prime age workers between 25-54, and teenage unemployment (especially for minorities) is a disaster.

Yes, we have boomer retirees, but they are not the causing this huge drop in employment.

If the Republican plan works, they'll all die of ebola anyway.

Good news? Only in the sense that Obama wants a stat he can spin for political purposes.

Back in the real world, this has been the Worst Recovery Ever, with mediocre growth due to Big Government sucking the oxygen out of the economy.

We should have at least 6M more employed people by now. We don't. That's due to Obamanomics.

The Good, the bad and the ugly!

Here is the good.

UE rate of 5.9%.

Here is the bad.

The number of unemployed fell in September by 329,000 to 9.3 million. Most of them found jobs. But nearly 100,000 stopped looking for work. Their exodus lowered the percentage of Americans working or looking for work to 62.7 percent, the lowest proportion since February 1978.

Here is the ugly

For example, there were 7.1 million people working part-time jobs last month even though they would prefer full-time work. That figure is up from just 4.6 million before the recession.

And there are 3 million people who have been out of work for more than six months. That figure has declined steadily in the past three years but is still more than double its pre-recession total.

7.1 million part timers under Obama vs 4.6 million under Bush.

3 million out of work more than 6 months under Obama, less that 1.5 million under Bush.

Yeah. The real figure is 12.6 and thats from Forbes.

Hope and Change? You bet.

Jobs Report U.S. Economy Added 248 000 Jobs In September Unemployment Down To 5.9 - Forbes

Finally we’ve got some balance back in the U.S. economy, ” said Dr. Patricia Buckley, director for economic policy and analysis for Deloitte, pointing out that job adds are on a clear acceleration path average 227,000 jobs added in the first nine months of the year. This is up from versus a 186,000 average in 2012 and 194,000 in 2013. Job growth has averaged 213,000 for the past twelve months.
The disappointing August payroll count was revised upward from plus 142,000 to plus 180,000.
The jobs adds, says Kinahan, were in the right places with three of the four sectors with the strongest growth — business services, construction and health care — being areas where people can have careers and not just short term jobs. Career creation is the second tier in what Kinahan sees as a three tier labor market recovery process: job creation, career creation and then wage growth.

Labor participation rate at a 36 year low woot!

You don't sound happy about the good news Rocko

You are not one of those rooting for the economy to fail are you?

what is more disturbing is that the people not in the labor force, rose to a new record high, increasing by 315,000 to 92.6 million!
And that's how you get a fresh cycle low in the unemployment rate.

Labor Participation Rate Drops To 36 Year Low Record 92.6 Million Americans Not In Labor Force Zero Hedge

Of course Rocko isn't rooting against economic health. What he is saying is we are far from being healthy.

This is good news today, because it appears better paying jobs are a significant part of this jobs growth! Now that will probably cause the unemployment rate to spike up next month, but that would mean the participation rate would be going up. That addresses my biggest concern.

While not great, it hardly looks like a disaster under Obama: 60.6% when he took office, dropped to a low of 58.2% in July 2011...currently at 59%. No cause for joy, but not a disaster.

That 1.6% drop equates to 4M additional people lacking employment. I doubt they are as copacetic as you are.
