McConnell has no ideology beyond remaining in power. It only takes 50, but you can't do anything with 50.

And Trump is simply incapable of compromise, because compromise requires you give someone you really don't like something you really don't want them to have. It's not making a deal with Russian gangsters to launder money, where you get to keep 20-30% of the cash, and they get the building with your name, and 80-70% of the debt ... but they get 20-30cents on the dollar of clean for dirty money.
