NEW YORK – Three years ago, when 44.7 million – or one in seven Americans – were on food stamps, former House Speaker New Gingrich dubbed Barack Obama the “Food Stamp President.”

Indeed, the cost of the U.S. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, has doubled under President Obama’s leadership, indicating poverty has continued to grow despite administration claims the U.S. economy is recovering from the depths of the 2007-2008 recession.

Americans more dependent than ever on Independence Day

You shouldn't be a scientist to understand what is going on. What's the Point of enticing Illegal's with a Open Border, EIC tax credits, and Handouts, while giving citizens Free Birth control, public funded Abortions and Gay Marriage? Seriously, can you see something smells bad here? Why is this not fixed? Because they are not trying to fix it. Why did it happen? Because they caused it. The answers are simple.

And by doing so exhibiting his ignorance as to the SNAP program.

It fails as a post hoc fallacy to 'argue' that an increase in the number of people receiving SNAP benefits is an in indication that the economy is 'failing.'

Indeed, much of the increase in SNAP recipients is the result of an education/outreach campaign by USDA to promote the program, where it's not a matter of more people 'becoming' eligible for SNAP because of a 'failing' economy – such a notion is a lie.

SNAP is neither 'welfare' nor 'public assistance,' it's a supplemental food program administered by USDA to ensure that working Americans have access to a sufficient source of nutrition.

Efforts by those on the right to contrive the SNAP program into some sort of a 'political weapon' to use against the president are ridiculous and unfounded.
