It has been proven that most of the polls are using flawed methodoligies of past elections. Democrats don't hold a 6 or 9 point lead with electorates anymore. The parties are basically split in the thirties with independents close behind. Romney is leading in nearly every state with early voters and independents aren't your typical early voter, the base is. And the republican base is energized moreso than the dems.

While I believe the race may be close for that very reason Obama has an uphill battle

The BBC like most European Media quote the same crap polls that the New York times, MSNBC and CNN etc publish.
What all these polls have in common is that they "re-adjusted" their weightings they assign to decided Democrat voter turnout based on the last election, while the other polls are using party specific voter turnout based on an average for the past 4 elections. The data that came back so far from the early voting does not support the assertion that as many of the voters who took the trouble the last time to actually show up and mark their ballot for Obama are doing so this time. For example in Ohio the "Obama" early voter numbers dropped by over 175 000 compared to the previous election and went up by about 75 000 for the GOP.
