    1. "Last summer PBS talk-show host Tavis Smiley and author Cornel West embarked on an 18-city poverty tour to highlight the hardship of poor people.

    2. Despite a record number of Americans -- one in two -- either living below the poverty line or classified as low-income, ..."

    3. "Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Census Bureau released last week a devastating statistic: nearly half of all Americans are living in poverty or near poverty.

    4. One in two Americans is either in poverty or near poverty,” he said. “If you add three categories together, the perennially poor, the new poor and the near poor, you’re talking over 150 million Americans.”

Ehrenreich, the author of “Nickel and Dimed,” was quick to respond.
“It’s been an idea out there for a long time that ‘the poor’ are some kind of special group, that they’re out there somewhere,” she said. “We need to face the fact that we’re not talking about someone else — we’re talking about almost half of Americans struggling.”

    5. "And Smiley tells us what he means when he speaks of half of Americans who live in poverty, because "poverty" includes poverty of affection, poverty of hope, poverty of truth, and poverty of opportunity.

    6. ...Liberals want to "eradicate" everyone's pain and create a heaven on earth."

So, what can we learn today, in, as our President say, ' a teachable moment'?

    a. 83.6% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

    b. The 'War on Poverty' and three years of Obamnomics seems to have made the situation worse, not better.

    c. Liberals have neither the brains to come up with a new crisis, nor have ceased to believe that Americans are really, really dumb.

    d. Usually, pumping up a crisis is designed to aid the Progressive candidate....so one might suspect that internal polls show Obama in deep, deep trouble.

    e. And, most important take-away: statistics on poverty are, and have always been, bogus...and a tool of the every-increasing welfare state.

"Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."
