MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation into law Wednesday shielding in vitro fertilization providers from potential legal liability raised by a court ruling that equated frozen embryos to children.

The decision by the Alabama Supreme Court last month raised concerns about civil liabilities for clinics and prompted an outcry from patients and other groups. Three major IVF providers paused services.

The new law protects providers from lawsuits and criminal prosecution for the “damage or death of an embryo” during IVF services."

More Republican incompetence and poor governance.

These regional assemblies do not attract the best people.

Good move.

WOW did the Alabama Supreme Cour step hip deep in shit with this insane decision. Republicans do not believe care about their own Reproductive health, or do not care how Women feel about MEN deciding their Reproductive health care.

Now look here. IVF involved harvesting a bunch of eggs, and then fertilizing them with sperm in labs, and then IMPLANTING A BUNCH IN HOPES SOME WOULD IMPLANT, which actually is a problem for all people seeking to get pregnant, but a lot don't implant ... NATURALLY. With IVF it was about culling or "killing" embryos when too many implanted. aCCORDING to you bible belters, THAT'S MURDER.

It definitely was not what most would consider a well crafted decision, opening a new pot of ambiguity, typical of short term thinking, not good for (conservative if you can call them that) Republicans across the country at this time, fervently wishing they could get any discussion of reproductive rights, treatment or governing intervention behind them, in this election year, but again, bringing it to the forefront and their unpopular courts decisions, along with it.

I thought it was an ok opinion .... if you believe life begins at the moment and egg and sperm become an embryo. The whackdoodle fundy Judge correctly cited scripture to support his opinion. Not unlike Alito.

Excellent.:auiqs.jpg:Life begins when they mix it in the test tube and then government courts regulate it, the parents, the doctors, the clinics, and hospitals.:auiqs.jpg:

‘The Alabama Supreme Court last month ruled that three couples whose frozen embryos were destroyed in an accident at a storage facility could pursue wrongful death lawsuits for their “extrauterine children.” The ruling, treating an embryo the same as a child or gestating fetus under the wrongful death statute, raised concerns about civil liabilities for clinics. Three major IVF providers paused services.’ ibid

Embryos are ‘children’ except for IVF treatment.

More poor, inconsistent governance; more ridiculous hypocrisy from the right.
