After Steinle verdict, Todd Rokita unveils bill to imprison officials who shelter illegal immigrants

It's more humane than passing a law that states if a politician / official harbors an illegal who kills, lets say, someone's daughter then the official's daughter is killed as punishment so the official will feel the pain he caused.

Do you guys do a contest to come up with suggestions that sound more crazy than the last?
Today's the day Trump will be impeached.

Then I guess we should stop giving sanctuary cities money since they cant manage to do their jobs.

No problem. Just let them keep the share of taxes they pay..OOOPS, people in the Sanctuary cities and states are paying most of the taxes already. It's the red states with their hands out for federal dollars.

And you'll have to give me more than your word that they take their time picking them up.

Actually, I recently had a conversation with an ICE agent who admitted they rely on local jails to hold them, but then insist that these facilities meet ICE standards, which most of them don't.

More jails refuse to hold inmates for federal immigration authorities

Currently, more than 225 local law enforcement agencies nationwide have adopted policies to completely ignore requests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to hold an inmate for an additional 48 hours after his or her scheduled release date from jail. Another 25 agencies have limited the number of immigration requests they will honor. New York City is among those considering ways to stop or limit holds.

In March, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Pennsylvania ruled that states and local law enforcement agencies had no obligation to comply with immigration hold requests because the requests did not amount to the probable cause required by the Constitution to keep someone in jail. Other courts have come to similar conclusions.

On Monday, another federal judge in Chicago reaffirmed that local law enforcement agencies should not consider the ICE holds mandatory.

This is all about politics and you know it.

Sure, it is. On both sides.

Hey, buddy, you've milked this tragedy for all it was worth... time to find a new tragedy to milk.

ndeed, there is something wrong with the idea that we need to pass a new law as a backup to an existing law that isn't being enforced.

You are right. there is something wrong with that. The reason why the existing law doesn't work is because it's impractical.

But instead of fixing what doesn't work, you guys want to double down on what doesn't work.

You see, there's an easy way to fix the "Illegal" problem.

Step 1- Create a National ID Card system, with pictures and biometrics for every citizen.
Step 2 - Strictly enforce workplace rules. If the person doesn't have a national ID and you hire him, you face stiff fines.
Step 3- Create a Guest Worker program like the Germans have to bring in extra workers when needed.

But what we currently do is kind of nuts. We have all these jobs Americans don't want to do, and then act all surprised when people sneak into the country to take them.
Completely out of of touch with reality. Nazi want's national ID card when we already have driver license. Same thing. Biometrics? lol. Just enforce the laws on the books.

The actions of such officials already meet the Constitutional definition of treason, which is a capital crime. It would not be out of line to try any such official for treason, and on conviction, to sentence that official to death. We do not need any new laws to do that; just to enforce the laws which already exist.

Why we are at it, let's execute all those folks who pay a bunch of day laborers outside the Home Depot to hang drywall.

Bullshit.
It's about following the law period!!
And liberals refuse to do so.

Not everyone drives. Shit, I didn't get a driver's license until I was 24. Didn't need one.

The problem is, too many people are hiring illegals, that' why they come here. Some of them are doing it knowingly. Some of them are honestly looking at false ID's (Still way too easy to fake, just ask any college kid) and assuming they are valid.

The Corrupt Democratic Party’s Sanctuary Cities are illegal, racist and a giant F U to American Citizens

'imprison officials who shelter illegal immigrants'

There is no drug war clause in the republican doctrine.

But the Democratic Party says that poor Democrat Voters don't have IDs

Because the laws don't work.

You know, there are laws against prostitution. But you can find a hooker pretty easily these days.

There are laws against smoking weed. Most people have.

when a law becomes impractical to enforce, it becomes meaningless.

When you tell a jail, "Hey you have to use your limited resources to hold illegals while we wait two years for their deportation hearing"

I'd tell ICE to fuck off, too.

http://trac.syr.edu/immigration/reports/405/

There were nearly a half million individual deportation cases (456,644) pending before the judges in the nation's clearly overwhelmed Immigration Courts at the end of August, according to the very latest information obtained from the U.S. Department of Justice and analyzed by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC). This backlog has been rising steadily for nearly a decade and has reached yet another new all-time high.

As a result, the average wait time for an individual in the Immigration Court's pending cases list has also reached an all-time high of 635 calendar days. But this average wait time only measures how long these individuals have already been waiting, not how much longer they will have to wait before their cases are resolved.

Yeah, you are right about that. Not everyone has a license, but everyone LEGAL has a SS card. That's good enough.

They already have them in custody.

And the illegals dont stay in the county lock up they're taken to federal facilities to await their deportation hearing.

True enough. And all you have to do is steal a 9 digit number, because nothing in the system links that 9 digit number to a face.

Again, why you need a national ID. So when an employer types in Joe B's 9 digit number, it gets a picture of what Joe B. looks like.

dude, I just told you, ICE relies on local facilities to hold people, that's part of the problem.

Now, if you had large federal facilities to hold them and ICE had enough agents to pick people up the same day, and you had enough hearing officers to resolve these issues in a couple of days, you might have a point.

We aren't putting out the resources to do that.

In fact, ICE only has 20,000 employees.

We have 22.6 million immigrants - 13.1 million are lawful permanent residents,8 11.1 million* are unauthorized migrants,9 and 1.7 million hold temporary visas

so even if ICE was only worried about the "illegals', that's still 1 ICE employee to every 504 illegal aliens.

"We didn't bring enough handcuffs, so some of you are going to have to share!!!"

End the drug war to pay for it.

In a convoluted way the death of Kate can can be meaningful if it results in building the wall, deporting many more illegals and stopping these filthy ass illegal sanctuary cites.

None of which will happen as long as the One Percenters who really run your party want a cheap labor source.

Whats impractical about holding the illegal until ICE can pick them up?
They do it all the time for other inmates who have charges or warrants in other states or counties.

Why so intent on freeing criminal illegals?

But that's the problem. ICE issues all these hold warrants, and then takes their own sweet time to pick these guys up, and the Country prisons usually don't have the room. They have REAL criminals to lock up.

So do we hold onto the suspected murderer who is a citizen, or do we hold onto the suspected illegal, who might get a deportation hearing in two years.

Then I guess we should stop giving sanctuary cities money since they cant manage to do their jobs.

And you'll have to give me more than your word that they take their time picking them up.

It is all about the Democrat scumbags kissing the ass of the illegals so that the illegals will keep them in power.

The Liberals in this country are failing because they have an agenda of destruction. They can't win on the issues. That is why they have lost 1,000 national seats, Congress and the Presidency.

They need the votes of the welfare queens and the illegals or else they would only get about 20% of the vote in the country.

They are traitors to this country by flagrantly violating the immigration laws that were established by Congress. They should be treated as traitors and criminals.

I'm all for it. But why do we need a law that punishes them for doing something already against the law?

Indeed, there is something wrong with the idea that we need to pass a new law as a backup to an existing law that isn't being enforced. Giving aid and comfort to foreign invaders is treason. We already have the laws that need to be enforced against filth who do this. If we won't enforce those laws, then what good is it to enact a new law that will equally not be enforced?
