A sensible conservative

May I be more direct?
What is the meaning of 'conservative'?

Could I be more obvious, it's not for me to say. It's for self-professed conservatives to say. Reread the article for your answer. I'll tell you what I believe, it's up to conservatives to say what conservatism is. My only opinion on the matter is that it's counter-productive to insist on some sort of ideological purity, if the party ever hopes to win a national election again.
We can't win against ACORN rules of 30 votes per Democrat to 1 vote per conservative. Our only recourse is revolution.

do it! I fucking dare you to do something you fucking psycho. Go on make all the fucking excuses you need in order to have your little revolution. Regardless of how fucking moronic they might be.

Please Blame acorn, or other voter fraud, Or how Obama usurped the constitution in order to win again. Or how the polls all skewed Dems, or how blacks are racist for voting for a black man.

For the love of god start your fucking revolution, quit your pathetic whining, and follow through on something instead of crying on the internet you pussy.

I hope you really do, i would love to watch your old hag ass get slammed into the ground by a cop for resisting arrest while you scream about your rights that obama some how took away by being a muslim from Kenya.

You'd appear so much more perceptive if you'd stick to words that you can actually define.

'Conservative' comes to mind.

I wasn't defining it. The author of the article, a self-professed conservative, was. Apparently these days you have have to pass some sort of ideological purity test first. Big Tent, my ass!

not regressive or reactionary, pc...

how's that, for a start?

and as much as i can't stand mark levin...

The Conservative does not despise government. He despises tyranny

David Frum?....Srsly?

wait you where just in the jindal thread arguing about how the party needs to stop listening to the radical right, and yet here you are doing EXACTLY what the loons did with Jindal.

You are a fucking fraud.
The party needs to quit listening to neocon dirtballs like Karl Rove, Bill Krystol and Bobby Jindal....THEY are the ones who have fucked up the party.

hardly. Fuck it, i hope you all eat each other into oblivion.

There's a lot of blaming of conservatives by conservatives. Personally I think they need to figure out exactly what their principles are and how to articulate them.

In the meantime, they should make a concerted and loud message that they will not obstruct on the federal level the plans of this administration, within reason. No, they should not agree to outlaw guns or oil companies, just to be clear.

As for going off the financial cliff, no. Give Obama all the tax increases he wants. Make clear that while disagreeing in principle, they will acquiesce to the 'will of the people.' No more, 'No.' No more letting the media or opposition define, define your own stances. In this case, 'vote for Obama plan, which is what people said they want.' Articulate why you think it's not prudent, but elections have consequences and it's past time that is recognized by everyone.

In the meantime, stop looking at the opposition for ideas or wasting time arguing. No more being defined, do your own defining of positions then let it go.

Let the opposition do what they wish, making clear why YOU think it's boneheaded, but stop short of going to the mats.

A consistent and comprehensive application of limited government and individual liberty – even when you disagree with how fellow Americans exercise their individual liberty, even when tempted to compel fellow Americans to conform to conservative dogma.

You may hate abortion and disapprove of homosexuality – but you may not seek to violate the privacy rights or equal protection rights of either class of persons.

I'm a libertarian -LP member even- and haven't voted for a single republican, including Scott Walker, since 1994.

I find it interesting, though, that leftbats like now you believe that the very people y'all hated on for the entire eight years of the Chimpola regime are now suddenly the smartest people in the party.

Who should be getting the blame are the establishment insiders like Rove, Kristol, Jindal and the rest of the neocon establishment lemmings, for yet another failure at running the failed candidate from the last cycle as this cycle's standard bearer.

"The United States did not vote for socialism. It could not do so, because neither party offers socialism. Both parties champion a free enterprise economy cushioned by a certain amount of social insurance. The Democrats (mostly) want more social insurance, the Republicans want less. National politics is a contest to move the line of scrimmage, in a game where there's no such thing as a forward pass, only a straight charge ahead at the defensive line. To gain three yards is a big play."

I am not conservative enough to qualify as Conservative according to the right because of my moderate stance on Social Issues, But I am conservative enough to qualify as a Right wing, racist Wack Job according to the left because (Gasp) I want limited Government.

The problem is People who are Fiscal Cons, and want limited Federal Government that works within the Constitution, and Social Cons are all lumped together in 1 group and called Conservatives.

Ask one person and real conservatism means being socially conservative. Ask another and it means being a fiscal Con.

People on the left, Lump as all together, and what ever the Craziest, Ignorant Social cons says is attributed to us all. Not so long ago Fiscal Cons, and Constitutionalists like me had another place to turn in the Dem Party, but those days are also gone. There is no place for the Blue Dog Dems anymore, which is why Bill Clinton was the last Dem I ever voted for. Romney will likely be the last Republican as well.

I have come to the conclusion that were going down no matter who is in charge, and I don't see the point to participating anymore.

Sad but true.

Yeah, right.

Your idea of "sensibility" is capitulation and immolation.

The Democrat Party has become the party of the abusive trailer trash redneck wife beater.

See if you can get behind this logic:

If you don't know what a conservative is, how can you give any credence to the claims of the writer based on his being one?

Conservative means that the government tells us what we can and can't do with our own bodies. It tells us what drugs we can and cannot put into our own bodies. It also tells us who we can sleep with and who we can marry. This is what conservative means; the government telling everyone what they can and cannot do.

Good plan – as the right’s scorched earth tactic worked so well in 2012.

To me, that's an insider fight, don't want to have it with opposition. It will shake out.

Again, I think an insider discussion. IMO, the social issues really were brought up this cycle by the opposition and plastered on the conservatives. I'm not all that much for social issues, I don't think they have a place in government. I think they are personal and think the government should stay out of bedrooms, bodies, etc. Which also means, not passing legislation to provide for contraceptives, marriage, etc. Let people be, let adults do what they do.

If they cross the line and carry on in public or with minors or by force, there are already laws about all.

I'm Catholic, I've one adult agnostic child, one Catholic, and one agnostic Jew-the Jew part at least until he gets married, we'll see how that works out. Dicey that one. ;) Oh, I've been dating an Episcopalian. I don't think I want religion a major part of my politics.

OTOH, I've no problem with a mention of God in our platform, but do have a problem with being 'Christian only.' No, that's not said, but often implied. Not where many are, but a vocal group is. I don't want to do away with the 'evangelicals,' but they can't alienate everyone else.

These are only a few of the issues to be discussed in the coming months, go to your GOP headquarters or at least write. Be heard, make them listen.

I'm not going to respond to non-conservative posters. Doubt I'll write another post like this. I do think real conservatives would be much better off discussing/arguing/debating with other conservatives and not the opposition that want to destroy what you believe.
