Excellent preliminary meeting in Oval with @SenSchumer – working on solutions for Security and our great Military together with @SenateMajLdr McConnell and @SpeakerRyan. Making progress – four week extension would be best!

WTF? A government shutdown is currently about five hours away from happening and the GOP hopes to blame a shutdown, if it happens, on Democrats and only two hours ago did Trump see fit to invite Chuck Schumer to the White House to have what he describes as a "preliminary" meeting. Seriously!?!
Nevermind that Trump, well before becoming POTUS, had plenty to say about government shutdowns (Source):
“Here’s the truth, the gov't doesn’t shutdown” http://t.co/Ny6RxVYiP0 via @AP. All essential services continue. Don't believe lies.

Stocks rose yesterday during the first day of government shutdown. Markets like being left alone for a day.

Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!

As a presidential candidate in 2015, Trump also backed a strategy proposed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to attach a rider defunding Planned Parenthood to a spending bill and force a shutdown.
Why doesn't Trump now like the notion of the government shutting down? Simple: it'll be an unprecedented one --- first one in modern history where the government shuts down with one party controlling Congress and the WH -- and it'll be on his watch. Well, folks wanted different, and that's different; no other POTUS having his party control Congress has done it. It'll be yet another first/superlative for Trump.
