But today it is so-called conservatives who are cemented to political programs when they clearly don’t work. The Bush tax cuts—a solution for which there was no real problem and which he refused to end even when the nation went to war—led to huge deficit spending and a $3 trillion growth in the federal debt. Facing this, John McCain pumps his “conservative” credentials by proposing even bigger tax cuts. Meanwhile, a movement that once fought for limited government has presided over the greatest growth of government in our history. That is not conservatism; it is profligacy using conservatism as a mask.
This kind of conservatism, which is not conservative at all, has produced financial mismanagement, the waste of human lives, the loss of moral authority, and the wreckage of our economy that McCain now threatens to make worse.
Most important, Obama will be a realist. I doubt he will taunt Russia, as McCain has, at the very moment when our national interest requires it as an ally. The crucial distinction in my mind is that, unlike John McCain, I am convinced he will not impulsively take us into another war unless American national interests are directly threatened.

Too hilarious. Oh sure Obama's $1 TRILLION for government takeover of healthcare insurance is bound to "fix" our economy but good. Senate Democrats are THIS MINUTE trying to also figure out how to bail people who were the most irresponsible with their own money -those who bought what they couldn't afford in the first place, maxed out their credit cards and can't pay, never had the financial means to make two house payments in a row on that $500,000 home etc.

Obama just said today that even with massive government bailout of the financially irresponsible under consideration, there will be NO PROBLEM with government footing the bill for his healthcare proposal as well as ALL those other new entitlement spending he wants to inflict on us all. We will be AWASH in "free money" to do it. NO problem.

Obama's basic platform is that there really is such a thing as a free lunch, government really can provide everything to everyone - and it can't possibly do any real damage to drive the wealthiest down to middle class in order to pay for it. But once the wealthy don't bother to even earn that kind of money anymore since they receive no benefit from it because government takes it from them -who do you think government is going to come after next to pay for that "free lunch". Go take a look at the semi-socialist countries of Europe and see who they expected to foot the bill after destroying their wealthiest class.

Liberals laugh at "trickle down" economics -which only shows their ignorance. It works both ways too -try to inflict the pain only on the wealthiest and it doesn't take long before that pain is felt by all. And EVERY single time, those feeling that pain the most -are those on the bottom. The very people Obama et al claim to want to help. These are the kinds of policies people come up with when they have zero education in economics to begin with -and then rely on economic advice from a couple of crooks who spent their time trying to game the system for their own personal profit.

As long as there are people who are so envious and corrupt as to look as the wealthy and tell themselves "No one should have that kind of wealth" instead of telling themselves "I can earn that kind of wealth" -you will invariably end up with a system that can only produce a society driven down to the lowest common denominator instead of one that results in the fewest people as possible at the very bottom. But these are the same people who actually think its more beneficial for the masses to "equally" suffer anyway -and never have a goal of a system that results in the fewest possible suffering.

Seems to me if those homeowners are given a 6% interest, they will be able to pay their mortgages and then the banks won't go belly up.

There are far more homes being paid for than there are homes NOT being paid for. Where is that money going? The CEO's bank account.

Close. Obama's plan is to provide everything to everyone who can't afford it. The rest of us actually have to pay our way.

look all i want is a plasma tv. you know one that covers the wall....i thought about spending my stimulus check on one...but then decided to save it to pay taxes lol.....no one got stimulated by me

Randi Rhodes is going off on the gov, banks and ceo's.

This is all a scam.

The ceo's should be fired wo pay. We should be able to renigotiate our credit cards and mortgages. The banks shouldn't be bailed out. Everything would be fixed.

The market is supposed to close for 1 hr if it gets bad and 24 hrs if it really gets bad.

I'm driving so I can't give you al the details, but if you don't know, its because you don't listen.
