I have come to the conclusion after much thought, on this bailout, that with the passage of this bill our country will fundamentally change from a republic to a government controlled socialist democracy. It's truly a sad day in American history for us all, from this point forward, the Govt. will be in the mortgage, banking, and insurance business. No more will responsibility be looked upon as value to be cherished, a person that pay's their bill's and works hard to buy a home, and see to it that their children have a better life than they did are made meaningless by a bill that say's it's okay not to pay your mortgage, your fellow American that pay's theirs will pay it for you. It validates the people on Wall Street that made millions at the expense of bad business decisions by throwing them a life life. It say's, don't worry if your a bad business man, the American people will pay for your mistakes. So who's to blame you ask? Well after much thought on the matter, I have come to the conclusion WE ARE!!. We are because, we voted for ALL those in congress and the White House for the last 35 years that have looked the other way, and accepted Millions from these companies, in the form of PAC donations, free rides, etc. We continued to Vote for these people who were to look after out interest. both DEMOCRAT and REPUBLICAN!! However now these same people are telling us, it's okay, because, now Mr./Ms. American we are going to take 700 Billion of your money to bail out all these people. If they really wanted to send a message, then what they should do is tell the people on Wall Street there is a thing called bankruptcy in this country, and to the mortgage holders its called the same thing.

I really have come to the conclusion that this bail out is a very BAD idea. So the economy suffers in the short term, so be it. However, whos next in line? The Airlines, Retail Stores, Starbucks? I mean where does this crap end? What happened to when you made a bad business decision you went bankrupt. Anyone ever hear of Eastern Airlines? giant airline , operated for years went down the crapper. I personally don't care what party anyone belongs to on this one, this bailout is marking a shift a big SHIFT in the way out government operates and I'm frankly surprised people don't see it. The funny thing is, in congress they are already in line to add pork to this bill, for healthcare, roads, and little pet projects. So no way I want to support this bill. I liked the post though, thank you

yep, it sucks. And we have the Democrats to thank! I still want to know what they plan to do when they run out of rich people to bugger.

700 billion my ass, they say that is just the starting estimate, it may run in the trillions before the Democrats get through adding in the Christmas wish list. hell we will end up buying everybody in the whole wide world a house cause they deserve it doncha know?

You know Willow, I have never said that this mess is the sole responsibility of the democrats, but I can tell you this it damn sure isn't the sole responsibility of my party (republicans) as well. To me it's rather two-faced for any candidate to stand up there and point fingers at the other and act as if they have always been for the little guy while knee deep in this mess like the rest of them. So what are we left with now? we are left with this massive bill that wants to bless those that have been "irresponsible" rather than do their jobs and regulate. It allows people the ability to run to congress each time they make bad financial decisions rather than bankruptcy court where they belong.

Only a trillion einstein.. 2 trillion is way out of the ballpark.. try picking up the paper and give it a read... seems that you have an issue with both comprehension and the facts...

as you may or may not have figured out, one cannot rely any longer on newspapers to print the truth. Over!

The people who place blame on one or two people, understand nothing. I would normally say they understand nothing about some particular topic but in this case I'll settle for NOTHING. After the GD, FDR and a bipartisan group of citizens realized the bubble the market created, the concentration of wealth in a few hands, and the lack of law and regulatory agencies would always lead to depressions, before this they were pretty regular. After the New Deal imposed its rules, money fought back, greed you could call it. Until bit by bit it eat away at the structure that kept men honest. It was the ideas, the money, the think tanks, the libertarians, and a few administrations and congresses that allowed it to get out of hand. Today I welcome you back to the days before the GD. But pieces of new deal still exist and people won't starve this time.

The proposal that Dodd has sent to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson would let judges modify the mortgages of homeowners in bankruptcy to allow them to keep their homes.

It also would require that the government come up with "a systematic approach for preventing foreclosure" on the mortgages it acquires as part of the bailout. That would include the home loans held by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the troubled mortgage giants now under the control of a government regulator.

The Associated Press: Democrats want pay limits, loan aid in bailout

So far, the federal government's tab for propping up Fannie Mae (nyse: FNM - news - people ), Freddie Mac (nyse: FRE - news - people ), and American International Group (nyse: AIG - news - people ) is $400 billion. Add the new loan relief entity, plus a smattering of other recent initiatives, and the jumping-off point could be near $1 trillion.

I know it Navy but the really sad truth is it dosen't make a tinker's damn worth of difference who we blame, it is still gonna go down and you and I still have to suck it up. The Democrats are never gonna accept responsibility for their actions and neither are the idiots that signed those mortgages. So, my bottom line is what is their plan when they have buggered all the rich people they can? they gonna start eating each other? More than likely.

somebody need to rip Chris Dodd a new asshole!

The point is, that no one SINGLE Person or party is to blame for this mess. However, if we let OUR government bailout Wall Street, then the message that sends is that the government is OUR keeper. A business man who runs his business into the ground need not worry as long as it's big enough, a person who makes an unwise mortgage buying decision, need not worry , WHY? because the government will come and rescue them which basically means, We, the American taxpayer will. This also validates, something too, the democrats have been saying. I see no way that all this socialization can take place without raising taxes. on the rich, and there goes that middle class tax cut. You think after putting up close to a trillion dollars to do this, we are now going to have money to be handing out tax cuts to anyone?

Notice how you don't put the Republicans in your post.

If it doesn't make a tinker's damn worth of difference who we blame, why not say Politicans in general?

Also, why not blame the idiots who offered those mortgages to people knowing they'd never be able to pay it back. Those people were told by the banks that "Ohh hey, you'll be able to afford it." Bill Clinton signed a bill to stop racism in people not being able to get mortgages because they may be a certain color or live in a certain area despite being able to qualify.

That was taken, ran with, and abused badly.

Democrats, Republicans, and these companies alike are all to blame. So before you cast a stone, look in your own party's mirror first.

Also, why is it the links between Democrats and these companies are brought up by you and not the Republicans? Or Republicans and the oil/health companies?

Individuals associated with Merrill Lynch, which sold itself to Bank of America in the market upheaval of the past weekend, have given his presidential campaign nearly $300,000, making them Mr. McCain’s largest contributor, collectively.

Know the facts before you spew the BS you CALL facts.

how do you propose to stop them? As you say both parties are to blame. You think you can talk your asshole congresscritters (whoever they may be) into voting no? Why hell no! they couldn't even bass a bill a couple of years ago that would have stopped this shit. You need to get over the notion that they work for us... noooo.. now the name of the game is we work for them.

The Republican party is full of whiners. You always think the sky is falling in!

Sound familiar? Now, when you are right about one god damn thing, come back and tell us you told us so.

And I love it that now us democrats are finally right and you want to blame both sides. How lovely of you, jackass. Time to own up. Your party failed you.

Time to shift from the notion that you are right to the fairytale that your party is the lesser of two evils. Perhaps some might still swallow that.
