Wyoming goes slow on $500 billion lithium find - Businessweek

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The discovery of lithium in Sweetwater County has already attracted four lithium lease applications, but the applications are on hold for now while state officials develop a strategy on how to handle mining of the new resource.

Ryan Lance, director of the Office of State Lands and Investments, said the State Board of Land Commissioners is taking its time deciding how to handle the applications because of the enormous potential value of the lithium find — estimated at up to $500 billion based on current market values.

The state board includes Gov. Matt Mead and the other four elected state officials.

Mother lode of lithium discovered in Wyoming | Current Edition | Northern Colorado Business Report

The Rock Springs Uplift is a collection of geologic features (including Madison limestone and Weber/Tensleep sandstone) that provide a cap to a vast underground storage space. Currently that space is awash in hot, pressurized brine.

"The brine is three times as salty as seawater," Surdam said. "Since we're in the Colorado River drainage, just putting the brine in an evaporative pond and storing the salts in a landfill wasn't going to work. The best way is to bring it to the surface, remove the lithium and most of the water. The small amount of slurry left would be re-injected."

Notice how carefully they keep emphasizing storage of CO2 and ignoring the fact that the very hot brine could replace the coal plants with geothermal plants.

Polls are mostly worthless, they can be worded for the required results.

Here it is, here's the question that was asked by the Washington Post/ABC News pollsters - in what way do you think it was "worded for the required results." -pewsh!-

“Do you think the federal government should or should not limit the release of greenhouse gases from existing power plants in an effort to reduce global warming?”

And the result...
"Overall, 70% support federal limits."
.

obama can forbid internal combustion engines, and shut down every coal plant in america and it wouldn't change anything worldwide.....It WOULD further diminish the lifestyle and well being of americans....and that, of course, IS the object of the game.

As usual taxpayers will be expected to foot the bill of this grandiose wealth redistribution plan.

Which demographic pays the most taxes in this country? Right. See?

..and as someone else mentioned, those who can't afford higher energy costs will assuredly get some sort of govt subsidized "grants" or "programs" ...which will have to be administered by some new bureaucracy staffed by unionized government employees ....more taxpayer money seized by govt. and redistributed.

China, Russia and about 30 other developing countries are going to keep chugging right along and laugh as they pass us by.

Until other sources of energy are cheap and realistically available, the world will continue to run on oil and coal.

Remove the federal and state taxes on gasoline tonight and watch what would happen to the economy. It would skyrocket tomorrow.

OK, remove the state and federal gasoline taxes, and maintain the roads with what? You damned idiots are sad cases, indeed. Our Interstates are already in bad enough shape. Your plan would render them and the state maintained roads unusable.

hahahahahaha..you really believe that your tax money is wisely and productively spent by the government? Seriously? That's comical. How old are you?

Show me one single, government run program that isn't a bloated, mismanaged, intransient, rapacious abuser of tax dollars. Your (The Left) whining and complaining is the consistent knee jerk reaction to anything other than spending more money.
We live in an age now where cutting the rate of growth in spending is considered a dastardly cut.
In business, everyone knows know that controlling costs is a mandatory element of survival. This element of restraint is non-existent in government.

This bloated, overgrown monstrosity they call a federal government wasn't created to steal working people's money and give endless free stuff to everyone else...but that's what it's become.

A nation that doesn't maintain its infastructure, education and tech is asking to become a third world shit hole.

No one said to abandon "infastructure" (sic) (infrastructure?) maintenance...or education..or "tech"..(whatever THAT is)...don't know where you came up with those bizarre ideas.

It isn't an "either/or" proposition.

This is a major loser for you assholes on the far right. You appear as the taliban on this issue.

You're calling me an asshole because you blindly support anything the government tells you?

Ok..I got your number, ace.

One thing the fucking private sector can't do is maintain highways, freeways and infatructure. More so when you're dealing with cross statelines.

First of all, no one said anything about privatizing. I'm speaking about lowering 2 taxes that would immediately improve the economy. Once again you wildly leap to a wrong conclusion.

As far as building roads, etc...you think there's a government office of road builders and "infatructure" (sic) (infrastructure?) maintainers who travel around and fix highways, freeways and "infatructure" (sic) ?
It's all contracted out to private companies anyway.

You really think every dollar the govt takes in in gasoline taxes goes to maintain highways, freeways and "infatructure" (sic).? Seriously?

The DoD. The interstate highway system. The NIH. NASA. NOAA. The Department of Agriculture. The Department of the Interior.

And before you pretend to be laughing, show us private concerns doing the same job with which you can compare this sort of work.

Governments do not have the same goals as private companies. Thus it is foolish to expect them to accomplish the same achievements.

Crick,

This is why Losertrianism is so fucking insane. They really do believe the unregulated capitlism can do it all. Somehow, it won't screw us all over either...What a bunch of nuts.

You are saying the DOD, the NIH, NASA, NOAA, Dept of Ag. and Dept of Interior are well run and efficient users of tax dollars and there is no corruption or mismanagement in any of those agencies? Really?
Do some more research.

No one said anything about "private concerns" doing anything...You invented a strawman to beat up.

We aren't discussing whether or not govt has the same goals as private companies.

I said that if fed and state gasoline taxes were removed, the economy would flourish overnight.

You've gone off on an unrelated tangent.

LMAO.."losertrianism"...how clever! :doubt:

So you completely abandon your position and revert to third hand ad homs.

Resolved, then;
The govt wastes too much tax money and the economy would grow with cheaper fuel prices.

speaking of "losertrianism'..you just lost this debate.

I'm trying to fine the link (hunting through the FCC site - like searching for a needle in a haystack......), MSNBC, supposedly, is not registered/licensed as a "news outlet" but as an "opinion outlet".

Righties, don't grasp onto this as truth as it's only hearsay. I trust the source but want to verify.
