$5 Gas Predicted Under Obama -- What, No Pitchforks?

$5 Gas Predicted Under Obama -- What, No Pitchforks? - Larry Elder - Townhall Conservative

A wonderful set of questions here:

-Where -are- the calls to sic Obama's Justice Department on Big Oil to hold the oil companies accountable for "market manipulation"?

-Where -is- The Obama demand that the Federal Trade Commission investigate Big Oil for "price manipulation?"

-Where -is- The Obama command to the Justice Department "to open an investigation into whether energy traders have been engaged in illegal activities that have helped drive up the price of oil and food?"

-Where -is- The Obama's call for "a windfall profits penalty on oil selling at or over $80 per barrel." (As of Christmas 2010, a barrel of oil sold at slightly above $90.)

And, of course - what would the price of oil be if demand had not been driven up by The Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" program that put all those huge, new SUVs on the road.

"A former president of Shell Oil considers this likely."

wow.....I'm convinced.

lol! When gas was $3.00 under DA BOOOOOOOOOSH,the pitchforks were out. Now $3.00 ant so bad according to the Hopey Changey Butt-Sniffers. Funny stuff. :)
Gas doubled in price to over $4 a gallon under BOOOOOOOOSH
Good thing we had a president who was so close to the Saudis
Gas, last week of Jan 2009:...1.685/gal
Gas, This week:...................3.067/gal
Increase: +82%

What's The Obama's excuse?
Or, better asked: What's your excuse for The Obama?

When the markets crashed, oil speculation went in the tank as well. We had $1.25 gas for a while here. So Bush's regulators totally fixed the oil problem (albeit indirectly). Betcha if we hadn't appeased the oligarchs with tax-cut extensions and had therefore double-dipped the recession, Obama would have fixed the speculation as well :p

Gas Prices will continue to go up and the usual suspect Hopey Changey Butt-Sniffers will scramble for excuses. They'll pull out the old BOOOOOOOOSH-Card for sure. But which politician in this country took the most cash from BP? Most of the Butt-Sniffers either don't know or just conveniently ignore the reality. Their own beloved Obamy has been in bed with BP all along. They're just stuck on stupid. I expect Gas Prices to continue rising. But i wont be blaming DA BOOOOOOOOSH.

Shouldn't we wait to see if gas prices go to $5/gallon before questioning why Obama isn't "pre-emptively" investigating the oil companies?

I think it would be in the range of $145. a barrel before we saw $5.00 gallon gasoline.

While you toodle your thumbs waiting in desperation and paranoia, you are doing nothing to ask for National Oil, which would calm you down with a steady price of $1-2. a gallon. I really can't show you any sympathy with your capitalist ways of enjoying being gouged.

Remember, it only costs .36 cents to refine 1 gallon of gasoline, leaving 1 gallon of by-products that sell for more than the gasoline, used to make clothes, oils, plastics, additives, etc. You might say it costs big oil nothing, and the funny part is they are using YOUR land and YOUR oil to gouge YOU with. Tsk!

So how is our lil cock sniffer doing today. Of course gasoline will go up, it is a capitalist system.

I see you didn't actually read what was said, instead attacking the source w/o any real criticism.

The 'price points" that generated at least half the quoted statements have already passed.
Where's The Obama?

So, y'all want price controls?

Regulation! Bigger Government! But how would that help the poor who don't drive? And the gas savings would just be used to rent porn films, and go to lap dance classes at the local bars. We can't afford bigger government during this economic downturn of Bush's.

Do you want Obama to interfer with the free market exercise? What are you, a Communist!!

There seems to be a conflict within the goals of "the left" between subsidizing consumption and environmetal stewardship. This is posed, not only by subsidizing fuel production, but also cash benefits and some other types of welfare.

Since we derive no taxes from Corporations, why not make a separation between corporate & state, stop taxing them (which the consumer pays anyway), and cut off all government benefits of any kind? 75% of the tax code would disappear along with IRS waste management. The true cost of a dozen eggs might be known. Throwing money at corporations only makes them more dependent on government and has cost us trillions.

No. That's why his bogus drilling moratorium and posturing on such matters is so destructive.

Taxing domestic production is the same as subsidizing imports. Domestic production would falter, imports would rise. This was proven with the original "Windfall Profits Tax".

BTW - the WPT was not a tax, nor was it based on profits. It was a direct confiscation of personal property assets by the government.

Seems reasonable to me. The result seems rather obvious too. But you have a point.

Are you actually advocating less government in some area??????

Id jump up and down the day government stopped handing out money to anyway. Go ahead, take away the benefits and the punishments and leave them alone.

You realize that if the President and Congress actually became serious about limited government, the lobbiests would be out of a job? They wouldnt waste money on them.

Separation of corporation and state? I'm all for it.
