Just wow! And the rolls have doubled since then. Sounds like there needs to be some major changes made, as there is nothing real to show for that $22 trillion spent on the declared war on poverty. That is 3 times more than defense has spent since the American Revolution..
The poor today have cell phones, a/c, cable tv, and a computer. 40% have wide screen hdtv's and internet service. None of what they receive is included in their total income.

What good has come to those on welfare with all the spending? What hand up has it provided or has it just perpetuated the problem for them?

Think of how much better off we would be if we had simply offered LARGE lump-sum payouts for people to emigrate.

Maybe they're not so poor anymore.

I think the left will respond that we just didn't spend enough.
YOu are probably right. Yet that is obviously not the answer.
It is estimated from 2009 thru 2018, another $10 trillion plus will be spent, not including the healthcare subsidies.
Another interesting fact is that 65% of households in 1969 had someone working. By 1991 that had dropped to 33%.

Considering the average family on welfare in DC receives benefits of $43,000 a year, you are probably right.

Do you hear the rich complaining?

They are the ones that own those companies making cell phones, widescreen TVs. In turn the internet service providers turn a tidy profit too. Their profits are through the roof... thanks to welfare.

I doubt the veracity of your claim, perhaps you should check your source again..
