2015 US auto sales hitting record highs .

11 billion dollar loss

in libtard world win win

Despite the $11 billion loss on the GM bailout, the Treasury Department was quick to point out that it has recovered a total of $432.7 billion on all investments under the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) – including the sale of its shares in AIG –compared to $421.8 billion disbursed. Treasury said it will continue to wind down the remaining investments”in a manner that balances maximizing the taxpayer’s return on investments with the speed of our exit.”

They are still on the hook for roughly 10 billion. Anyone paying attention already knew this

No, they aren't "on the hook" for it. They're done. TARP was a success, the government recouped it's losses and the US auto industry was saved in the process. Tell us again how that's bad...and Obama's fault.

You're an idiot and dismissed

Ta Da! And now we have the pat Sassy's been spanked response!

You righties hate any good news for America .

Unfortunately if you break out the numbers the US auto industry kind of sucked hind tit. Take a peek at the Hot list, Top 20 and Market Share list at the link. Honda import cars up 347.1% other imports did very well also.

Auto Sales - Markets Data Center - WSJ.com

Better check those stats closely because Honda builds a LOT of cars here in the US.

Had you gone to the link you would have seen they breakout the numbers between domestic and import. Don't tell me to do something when you didn't bother to open and read the link.

Although GM has been very profitable since 2009, its stock price never rose to a level that let Treasury to recoup that investment.

"Our goal was never to make a profit but to stabilize the auto industry," said one Treasury official on background the day it sold its final GM shares. "By any measure, we succeeded."

GM made $22.6 billion since bankruptcy. Taxpayers lost $10.6 billion on bailout

That in a nutshell, is how government let's you know that taxpayers lost money and were never fully repaid. That admission is the best the left-wing media will be allowed to say stemming from CNN.

Over 1.5 million US jobs saved with the GM bailout that the Federal Reserve lost $10.6 billion on. That is $7k per job which was more than paid back in income, payroll & earnings taxes not to mention the money we saved by not having to pay out unemployment, food stamps, medicaid, bankruptsies, etc on those 1.5 million workers.

GM fell into bankruptcy because corporate bet it all on trucks when gas & diesel prices soared & deregulation of wallstreet banks that tanked pension funds. The unions did not take down GM.

Thanks Obama ! He saved the car industry and now it's booming !

U.S. auto sales touched a new high in 2015 as easy credit, hot new vehicles and strong consumer confidence pushed sales slightly above the record set in 2000, industry data showed Tuesday.

Some 17.47 million vehicles were sold in the United States last year, nearly 70,000 more than the record set 15 years earlier, according to Autodata.

Sales were up six percent from the 16.52 million vehicles registered in 2014.

The boom comes after sales collapsed to lows not seen in decades in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis which knocked General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy.

That downturn accelerated much-needed restructuring at the Detroit Three carmakers, which began racking in record profits when the economy improved and sales started climbing again.

Keep telling yourself that, I had family working at GM, they would come to our house a thousand miles from the plant on vacation, while one of their friends punched them in and out every day. Another was a plumber in a plant and was making 6 figures with overtime. He was so fat he couldn't climb a ladder because they weren't rated for his weight. All were protected by the union, even when the defrauded the company. That went on from the mid 60's to the mid 90's when my last relative retired.

We know you can't see the facts due to your blind hatred of a few lazy union workers.

FACT: In 2007 GM had way overproduced trucks with a glut of over 153 days supply even while trying to sell them at a $5,000 discount. The home building bust & high fuel prices meant people did not want trucks. They wanted high fuel mileage vehicles.

Do you honestly believe GM would have been spared bankruptcy or bailout if those lazy union workers would have climbed their ladder & worked harder to overproduce more?

I have repaired vehicles & for 40 years. In all that time I have never found a failure caused from it being assembled incorrectly by a union assembly line worker. Every failure was from bad design from corporate. They chose to eliminate the $10 transmission cooler that would have prevented 90% of their transmission failures. They also chose to build vehicles designed vehicles to guzzle more gas than their competitors.

The Bush Republicans, Wallstreet & CEO's caused the economic collapse & demise of GM. They also allowed GM's competitors to cheat on emissions test to increase their vehicles power & fuel efficiency while lowering their R&D & manufacturing cost.

Well, actually the union did, along with Honda and other Japanese automakers, with the help of a few Korean ones too. I worked in the auto industry, I know!

1. When you have to pay 95% of a employees wages and carry their health insurance even if they are not producing anything, it not only costs the employer huge, it also costs the consumer large increases, meaning that they can't compete at the price point their competitors can. The only REASONABLE choice that an employer has if not flush with cash, is to over produce it's product line to get some bang for its buck, in hopes it can dump the products for between a small profit/small loss. (better to pay 100% of salary for something, than 95% of it for nothing)

2. Ford DOWNSIZED earlier, than put most of it's plants on massive overtime to keep pace with demand. GM did not! Their corporate team believed that demand would return for their products, before time ran out and the balance books would switch. Of course, none of the big 3 took into account the economic problems that were coming, because they were unaware.

3. If you want to know the absolute truth, all you need do is look back in the archives on the internet, and see how much cash on hand GM had at the end of 2007. Does that amount seem prudent to any of you for the size of a corporation like GM?

So yes, GM took itself down, with the help of the union, the help of the economy, the help of the import automakers, and the help of a poor management team who bet the farm and lost!

Every failure was from owner abuse or bad design from corporate. They chose to eliminate the $10 transmission cooler that would have prevented 90% of their transmission failures. They also chose weak ignition switches & to build more large trucks to guzzle more gas than their competitors.

The home building bust & high fuel prices meant people did not want trucks. They wanted smaller high fuel mileage vehicles the foreign competitors made. In 2007 GM had way overproduced trucks with a glut of over 153 days supply even while trying to sell them at a $5,000 discount. Since being bailed out GM returned profit of over $22 billion. That would have dividends of more than double the amount the government initially lost. The government sold it's shares way to early, because it should have made money on those shares. Government is still in the black on GM because it's collected far more from taxing it's workers instead of supporting them if unemployed.

What ever. Good times convinced GM that they were bullet proof in spite of union extortion, guess what good times ended but the excessive contracts and pension obligations didn't. That will kill any company and justifiably so.
