2012 election the year that proved the TEA party is a sham

You don't break a deal after it has been made. So tell me if they raise the rate after you retire then what?

It's not about raising the rate, it's about the reasons why they had to raise the rate.

Let me put it this way:

If you lent me $100.00, and then asked me to buy goods for you worth $60.00, which I then bought for you, should I pay you the $100.00 back with money someone else lent me?

and should I then ask that other person to lend me more money to cover the difference?

Because that's exactly what current retirees are asking the government to do.

Yea, the government spent the money, on things that the taxpayers asked for. Like lower tax rates, and coinciding massive spending.

What about you when you are retired and someone your age thinks there needs to be a change made? I didn't start this it was a democrat who got us hooked on the government tit. Now you are footing the bill for those who paid the start of it, and you don't like it.

When it was started, it was solvent. And it would have remained solvent if REPUBLICANS hadn't looted it.

Oh, I'm sorry "taken out loans from it".

Republicans that the very same people who retired members of the Tea Party most assuredly voted for.

from where i sit, it appears that the tea party has become a republican method of getting their politicians back in office. it's now far from what it was originally started for. but then again, is there anyone in the US that couldn't see what was going to happen to it?

Actually it represents the split between the Blue Bloods in the Party, both Parties, and those in the trenches. This is about restoration of sanity on the Political Spectrum. We are taking our Country back. Deal with it.

hey, i'm for taking the country back from the special interests. i'll be keeping an eye on it to see if the tea party actually takes america back. and more importantly, reduces our national debt. anybody want to bet me regarding how it turns out?

Just the Republicans? Stop it.

Of course it wasn't "just" the Republicans. But it was in fact "mostly" the Republicans.

And the retirees were in fact mostly responsible for voting those people, both Republicans and Democrats, into office.

But really, my original comment wasn't meant to assign blame.

It was meant to point out the hypocrisy of railing against "Socialism" when you're not only a direct beneficiary of, but a proponent of, when it applies to you.

I didn't see you say democrats and republicans

Sure. Like I believe that

I didn't see you say democrats and republicans

Why do I need to blame the republicans when you democrats do it so well and forget about the democrats.

It wasn't just the Republicans. I fully admit that. There are a bunch of lousy Democrats in office too. Which is why I'm a continuous proponent of a third, or fourth party.

But the people that originally set Social Security in motion were not doing it as some sort of big scam.

They in fact set it up so government couldn't dip it's hungry paws into it to pay for other things.

Unfortunately, the law is malleable in the US. And the lock on Social Security's "lockbox" has been picked. And that is fucked up.

The other thing that's messed up is that the retirement eligibility age has only risen by 10 years in the past 80 years, while the average life span has increased by 23 years.

How did anyone think that would be sustainable?

But my point is that it is especially galling when I hear retired folks scream "socialism" for any government benefit plan that goes to anyone but themselves, while they are sucking on the government teat.

The tea party folks will vote, contribute, and will remain a force for years to come. In fact when one considers these are the very people that live on a fixed income, worked, served their country, paid into the greatest ponzi scheme ever devised, see first hand that the purchasing power of the dollar is collapsing around them, one had better take another look for they will not be swept under the carpet, sit back, and be treated like second class citizens.

If they vote for newt or romney exactly what do that show about the tea party as a whole? The party now is going against what they stood for two years ago.

No they won't. They are older and will die off, but I guarantee they are not going to allow medicare or SS changed while they are alive.
