2001-2008: 2.4 million jobs moved to China: Do politicians care?

If you are so anti Jobs In China, then the you are a hypocrite if you buy products made in China.

The fact is, consumers in the U.S. have vastly increased purchasing power due to Chinese labor. As much as you decry jobs moving there, you benefit from it.

The real solution is to get rid of the crushing government burden which is destroying economic growth in the U.S. The main way China relates to that is how we are so much indebted to them.

Since you asked it twice, I suspected you thought is was a clever "gotcha" question. I thought I would play along.

The truth is, you can't avoid "buying from China". As you can see from the following article, Republican policies were designed to make us dependent on China. I wonder how much it cost them? The Chinese I mean.

Rare Earths: China's Weapon

Rare earths, also known as "strategic metals," are a number of scarce elements necessary for many contemporary technologies, both military and civilian. Among the products implicated are wind turbines, hybrid cars, night-vision equipment, and radar.

Rare earths are scarce, not because they are not widespread, but because they are not normally found in high enough concentrations to make their exploitation economically feasible.

Over the last decade, China has emerged as the main producer and exporter of these elements, and currently supplies some 97% of world demand. This is a result both of its lower production costs, as well as the stricter regulatory and environmental policies in the United States. One key example is the closure of Mountain Pass Mine in California in 2002.

PanOrient News | Rare Earths: China's Weapon Too Soon

China raised concerns by reducing its export quotas for raw rare earth elements from 2005 through 2009, forcing foreign companies to buy more Chinese-made products containing or manufactured from rare earth elements.

Why do I always get the impression the right wing defends anything to do with some corporation making a buck? Even at the expense of THIS country????

You really are dense.

Who cares if we do business with China if we also have our own vibrant economy in which jobs are created?

I thought you Lefties Cared About Humanity. Why shouldn't Chinese Peasants have a chance to have jobs?

Can someone from the right explain to this idiot child? Please?

We can't compete with someone making a hundred dollars a month. Besides, if WE trained them, then they aren't peasants. Unless you are calling Americans who used to do the same jobs "peasants".

rdean needs to be smacked with a cluestick.

A growing economy creates jobs - they don't have to be the exact same jobs that are done by peasants in China.

some seem happy to watch the average wages in the USA Drop while those in China, Inddia, etc rise. We will meet in the middle somewhere.
THAT is the inevitable result of quasi free trade/globalization.

And when you figure in average figure in that at least 10% are getting no wages and average that in.

Expanding the size of to government so that it intrudes further into our personal and private lives.

Yep jus like the Patriot Act.

We safe just still scared.

Here we go again: BOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Bush didn't increase Federal Spending by 28% in less than two years. That is Obama's responsibility.

The title of the post:

Who was president during that time? Sometimes, people just have to take responsibility for what they did.

Part of that Responsibility is "knowing the facts". Bush and the Republicans trashed the economy. They moved much of our base to China.

Would you have preferred the country go into a deep depression?

Please don't say "yes".

Pray tell, what jobs would those be?

Gas going to $5/gal grows the economy a lot.
How many additional jobs is it likely to provide?

The economy growing is not always good for the citizens overall.

the old mentality of if the market if doing fine the economy and people are doing fine.

Old "rules" are no longer valid in a world economy.

The right doesn't seem to realize it's not just the economy.

China, being a "socialist/communist" country has an enormous work force that is basically "slave labor". We know the value of "slave labor", just ask the Confederates.

Yep the same goal as many republicans.

They also like the lack of environtmental regs and pesky labor laws in China.
Republicans love China, they would just hate living there.

If you are so opposed to Slave Labor, why do you support a government that wants to raise the marginal tax rate to over 50%?

Wait a second. Are you saying you're FOR "slave labor"?

Progressives were big fans of the ChiComs, until they started making their own living.

It's hilarious

link?

Don't you read anything that isn't Lefty talking points?

The top marginal tax rate for the Feds will increase to 39.6% if the Bush tax cuts expire. (this is widely available data you can find for yourself) Add to that 1.45% for Medicare and state income taxes of 9%+ in some blue states, and we are over 50%. Factor in AMT and losing deductions, and it's even higher.

For the self-employed, it's even worse as the Medicare tax is doubled.

For two income families, the marginal rate for the second income adds another 12.4% to the total as SS is now applied, resulting in a marginal tax rate of well over 60%, approaching 70% if the second income is from self-employed activities.

Still no links? Figures.

Just to get it on the record, do you support "slave labor"? Yes or no?

If you add in state income taxes it's even worse. If you live in NYC then you have to add NYC income tax as well. The overall rate is probably 90% in some cases.

Finally rdean, you posted something interesting and apparently non partisan. The problem is you didn't voice your opinion on what the solution to the current "China Problem" should be.

Please do.

yea.....kinda strange.....not one reference to Republicans...........

You have some evidence of that, right?

22% of my income goes into my profit sharing, the maximum allowed. I'm also paying off a $30,000 loan I took out of my profit sharing to pay off the rest of my College tuition that has to be paid in 5 years. What's left over is a comfortable living. No one is taking anywhere near 90% of my income in taxes.

Prove your assertions. Post some links.
