Now wait just a minute. Everyone knows that government spending does not create jobs.

it does not cause a net increase in jobs. IF it did the governmnet could just hire the 23 million unemployed and end this depression now and never have to worry about unemployment again.

They could if they had not already spent 10 trillion or so before the recession hit.

FDR did it.
And we entered the 80's with under 1 trillion in debt....
Then we became a debtor nation under Reagan.

You cons, who so firmly believe that govt spending does not create jobs, should do the following:
1. Go find a cop and tell him that he does not have a job created by gov spending.
2. Go find some Reagan economists and tell them that their idea to borrow and tripple the national debt, and increase taxes on 11 different occasions, in order to eliminate some of the problems that were caused with their massive tax decrease, was wrong. They sure believed that stimulus spending was a great idea, and needed to save their asses

This absolute certainty of deficit spending not helping the economy, and not decreasing unemployment in particular, are just plain butt stupid. Spend some time trying to figure out what has helped us during recessions and you will be surprised.

We have never made good on our promises...I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started... And an enormous debt to boot!"

"The New Republic"( at the time a FDR greatest supporter") noted. In June 1939, the federal public works programs still supported almost 19 million people, nearly 15% of the population" [page 313]

In fact in 1939, unemployment was at 17%, and there were 11 million additional in stimulus make work welfare jobs. Today when the population is 2.5 times greater we have only 8 million unemployed. Conclusion: legislation to make Democrats illegal
is urgently needed

Government workers can create, invent & help grow the economy. They just don't do it efficiently. They should not get paid more than the ones paying them. That is like employees getting paid more than their boss or business owner.

Like I said they "can" help grow it but rarely do because they suck at it. Government did create GPS, aerodynamic semi-truck, accelerometer, the Internet, fire-resistant clothing, bar code reader, etc. The main purpose of a government employee is to make them earn their keep instead of paying them welfare, unemployment & food stamps to sit on their ass. This prevents them from being nothing but a total drag on the economy. They should never make more than private sector workers.

Damn straight - Paying labor to sit idle is wasting a valuable resource. That is a complete failure of government & the private sector. Democrats believe government should be the only employer & pay high wages. They also believe paying labor to sit out is stimulus I believe government should only employ when the private sector fails but never pay more than the going private sector wage so these government workers will have the incentive to get a private sector job.

The best time for the government to hire cheap labor to build infrastructure is when they can get lots of unemployed for cheap.
