Its a tragedy when anybody gets hurt and killed. That unfortunately happens every day with most of the crime happening between US citizens. All we can do is screen people who come into our country best we can do our best to keep our streets safe. I don't see the difference between screening somebody who illegally crosses the border and somebody who drives across a checkpoint.... Either person is capable of committing crime in our country

Yeah, border patrol in every border state pick up and process illegal immigrants. They get court dates if they claim asylum and they get deported if they have criminal records. Nowhere that I've seen do border patrol agents just let people go without record of who they and without setting a trial date to arrange for documentation or deportation.
