REUTERS – In Arizona authorities confiscated thousands of pounds of narcotics and arrested 70 druggies with ties to the State of Sinaloa in Mexico. The police, ICE and others busted the offenders in 3 different raids. They found drugs, money, weapons, ammunition, and bullet-proof vests in a "sophisticated network." It was one of the largest busts in America. The drug cartel smuggled drugs from Mexico by car, air and foot and tunnels. “This is a billion-dollar drug trade organization linked to the cartel."

The drug cartel is “home to big marijuana and opium poppy plantations and considered the cradle of Mexican narcotics trafficking since the 1960s. “ The cartel is believed to control 65% of the drugs delivered to America.

“Further details of the operation will be released at a press conference at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration field office in Phoenix on Monday.” The official said the operation will shed light on elaborate drug smuggling into the United States and said the contraband confiscated in the raids was "jaw-dropping."

Authorities to Share Details of AZ Smuggling Bust

    Monday, October 31, 2011

PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Law enforcement brought down a huge drug trafficking ring. They arrested 22 drug mules that worked for the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico. They are said to be the most powerful drug cartel in Mexico and now have expanded their business to the United States.

The drug smuggling ring funneled through about $33 million dollars in drugs monthly. The Sinaloa cartel has been operating in the U.S. for about 5 years.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), estimates the drug cartel brought into the U.S. “more than 3.3 million pounds of marijuana, 20,000 pounds of cocaine and 10,000 pounds of heroin.” Their profits topped around $2 billion dollars.

ICE and the Pinal County Sheriff's Office are working together on a 17-month investigation this is just the latest of 3 recent drug busts.

“We're hearing that weapons seized in the bust were linked to Operation Fast and Furious.” This will be Eric Holders unmaking, I hope.

Borderland Beat: 'Massive' smuggling ring dismantled in Arizona

    Monday, October 31, 2011

"This is a historic drug bust," added Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. "...We have to stand up and bring the fight to the cartels and say, 'This is America. You're not coming here.'"

Babeu said the investigation, known as Operation Pipeline Express, began in June 2010 when one of his deputies pulled over a vehicle near Stanfield that was loaded with 1,500 pounds of marijuana. Intelligence gathered during that stop led to a massive criminal investigation involving about two dozen law enforcement agencies.
