Another blanket comment about "those terrible liberals" that yields nothing useful to the thread. Awesome. Please, keep throwing around meaningless stereotypes, ffs.
If the EPA were gone tomorrow, and all the money refunded to the public, would some private group begin to take individuals and corporations to court? Would it get enough charitable funding to take on EVERY lawsuit against EVERY infractor? Would it have the means to investigate? Would it have the authority to make sure that their, non-voted-on standards would be upheld? Hell no.
"But I wasn't talking about the EPA..." The same logic goes for lots of different agencies that aren't in the Constitution, yet people complain about them being in government today.
And this big boogey man of welfare bums and cheats is totally not the cause of our country's problems. They exist, but not nearly as much as some would have you believe.
There has to be a middle ground between "gut the poor" and "nanny state"...where the government is involved. Private charity won't cut it.
