I saw this the other day. I liked it. It was, in terms of action and tone, basically a return to the feel of the more classic Bond films of the 1960s and 1970s.

Personally, while I enjoyed the film, Skyfall always kind of bugged me. It's aping of Christopher Nolan's style was just a tad too on the nose for my tastes. The villain was also basically just a more flamboyant Bond Villain remake of "The Dark Knight's" Joker, made inexplicably gay for some reason and given some rather odd mommy issues. I actually appreciated the fact that Specter felt a bit more like a return to the "classic" Bond style in this regard.

I also thought they did a good job with the Bond girls this time around, which was a welcome step up from the rather forgettable love interests we've had ever since Quantum of Solace. Bellucci may have been a bit more "matronly" than "sexy" (IMO, anyway), but the blonde girl actually had pretty good chemistry with Craig, and seemed like a good match for him without being over the top.

(Props to Dave Bautista on his Jaws/OddJob 2.0 role as well)

That being said, however... Yeah, there were some problems. The "tentacle porn" intro credits and whiny song accompanying them were probably one of the worst I've ever seen. The main villain was also pretty lackluster all the way around.

Basically, the most memorable thing about the guy (until the last fifteen minutes, anyway) was that he wore loafers without socks (THAT BASTARD!!!). Skyfall's Silva might've made me uncomfortable, given how "Jokerish" he seemed, but at least he had personality. Blofeld was just an almost complete non-entity - An unassuming but psychopathic soft spoken metrosexual with a goofy backstory and a (comparatively) mild sadistic streak.

Meh.

He also has a really lame "twist" to his origin and relationship with Bond, which was so understated and unnecessary that it felt more like random trivia.

Overall: 7/10

Lol! Sounds pretty good but I will wait until I can watch from home. I'm not willing to spend $20 to see it at the theater. :D

Damn, movies are expensive up there in "Bahston," huh? :D

Yes they are, and if you think the price of the movie is bad, you should check out the prices of the snacks! :ack-1: A night out at the movies is quite expensive actually. With Netflix and other things, I'm surprised they can even stay in business, but I guess people still like to go to the movies no matter how expensive it becomes.

I like Danial Craig as Bond, unlike past Bonds when he's been in a fight it shows. He also has the drive and confidence bordering on arrogance that Connery portrayed. And no more super duper unrealistic spy toys.

I liked Sean Connery. I like the super duper spy toys. :( For England.
I'm also jealous of Craig, he's married to Rachel Weisz.......... :eusa_whistle:

Sean Connery loves NO woman. He only loves England! :D

His were the first Bond movies I ever saw, so for me he IS James Bond. I also didn't mind the other guy right after him. Roger Moore. He was okay and kind of on the same wave length as Bond. I want my James Bond to be cold and callous and have lots of super duper gadgets to play with. :D

I liked it very much for several reasons one of which you stated, that it was a return to classic Bond style.

After years of suffering through really crappy Bonds from the horrible Roger Moore, to the boring most recent guy who's name I can't remember at the moment, I really like Daniel Craig as Bond. He's second only to Sean Connery. Connery had a little more humor. I liked how he'd kill some guy and crack about it with a twinkle in his eye. But with Craig, I actually look forward to JB movies again.

Connery was the first Bond I grew up with, hated Rodger Moore and all the others till Craig got the job, I find I like his portrayal better than Connery's.

I honestly never really watched any of the Bond movies before Casino Royale. I'd just seen some snippets here and there of Connery, and some of the later - really bad - Bond movies from the 70s and 80s with other actors that were basically unwatchable.

I think Connery and Craig are undeniably the best two Bonds. Connery had wit and charm, but his movies (and behavior/attitudes) are kind of dated by today's standards. Craig is a bit more cold and steely eyed, but he's got a lot of Connery's old swagger. He's just a lot more modern about it.

mr. boe and I saw "Spectre" yesterday - the IMAX version. We really enjoyed it. I was a tad dubious given Daniel Craig's recent tacky comments about being tired of playing Bond blah blah blah.

I like the casting, the plot is interesting, and the cinematography is gorgeous. My only complaint (a bit of a spoiler)....is the motivation of the Big Villian. He has daddy issues.

Meh.
