I did catch a part of a segment on the local news about Don Mclean but I had no context as to what it was about.

Ha! That must have been why I thought of it, just his name brought back how much I hated that song!

That song got too much airplay back in the day, I must admit, but the music died in my home state of Iowa, so I'll probably always give it a pass.
 
Every Breath You Take by the Police. And I really like the Police, but this one was so overplayed and it's not even one of their better songs, IMO.

Pretty much anything by the heavy metal bands with the overly distorted guitars and screechy lead singers.
