Not only your own life, but you are willing to end someone elses life over a used iPhone. It's hard to grasp how depraved some people are, now these teenagers get to spend the best years of their life behind bars.
For nothing.

.

I'll take "Yet Another Reason Why I'd Never Own A Smart Phone" for $1000, Alex.

Depending on where I lived, I usually would not wear my wedding ring in public, for the same reason.

I'm willing to bet with the advent of an online existence, movies, video games, violence all around us, that the human brain isn't developing well socially. Couple that with a lack of belief in G-d and rules that are beyond man and there is no structure for the young. Many of the parents of these kids are not intellectually sharp themselves, most have their heads in an iphone all day.

How young are these two? They look no older than 19 or 20. They are a ball of emotions, zero appreciation for consequences, just as little regard for life and they see something they want, like a child who throws a tantrum when they can't have their bottle.

I will say it 1000 times, crime is a social problem.

Instead of having a massive, bloated penal system for kids, presuming most adult murderers were criminals when young, have judges send kids to military school. Give them a chance to correct their behaviour when young and allow them to be productive. It's too late for these two because they've now murdered. Could it have been nipped in the bud at some point?

There is absolutely no value to sending a young person, especially one with potential, to prison. Zero. No value but funding a massive prison complex.

Then they grow up and kill someone because they've had no structure. No respect for life. No appreciation for discipline. Probably hate the world and society, but some prison warden somewhere makes bank so that's what matters.

That's my take at the moment. I guarantee you that you cannot and will not legislate crime out of existence. It's like having a wild puppy who will never slow down because they are too amped up. It takes effort, time and structure and then the puppy will grow to be a loyal, loving dog.

They get the "structure" they never had in prison, they have to function according to penal code, and prison code.

They will learn structure, be it good, or bad. I learned structure in the military, I signed up for it, just like these two teenagers signed up for prison.

We get what choices we make. They are right where they belong.

That's a simplified way to look at human nature. Humans are complicated, it's why the FBI are (or definitely were) the best police agency in the world solving the most difficult cases, they didn't share a prejudice, they analyzed psychologically and socially to direct them to the potential perp.

I will give you a prime example. Shaq played for Orlando and was a young man, 18 or 19, you could see a punk in every interview he did. He was on the Howard Stern show and sounded like a punk with his "crew".

Now this is a multi-millionaire if not then soon to be, He had all the opportunity in the world.

He plays in L.A, still has a chip on his shoulder but eventually he become humane and a better person in his interviews. More jovial, more experienced in life as he rubs shoulders with creative people, big business and sponsors.

If Shaq is six inches shorter he might be on welfare today or in the joint. He plays ball, gets a big contract, gets to be around people who get him to appreciate his life. He is actually more disciplined than the average NBAer as his step father was in the military, but I assure you, there was no guarantee he wouldn't lash out in anger at some point.

Ditto for Mike Tyson. The guy is now a representative of products, working with CEOs, is actually a fairly well read guy. What does he become if Cus D'Amato doesn't find him as a chubby, violent 12 year old?

The two above played sports for a living and made millions. If they don't get that opportunity you can bet their lives are different. Now look at these two, probably raised in a difficult situation with poor parenting provided.

If they engaged in crime when young and sent to military school their chances were probably far better. If they were sent to prison as kids, what do you think they are to end up doing as adults? They will just become better and/or more violent criminals.

As a society we can't save everyone, but it takes a village to raise a child. Today, no one gives a shyte and that's the problem. We are sending the young out to be exploited by the "good guys" and the bad.

Yes, they have to pay the price now. What people should care about is their failure and the problem is no one cares. Everyone will yell "these criminals should hang for that they did"! You can hang them, problem solved, though 40 years in prison does the same. Ultimately though there will be the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one....
