This is an except from an article about supposed concerns in Nevada about the new megabill and it's requirements that ablebodied adults get up off their couch attached aspidisperous and contribute something:

Democrats are already eager to go on offense against the law. State Rep. Steve Yeager, the Democratic speaker of the state Assembly, said he’s already been contacted by many constituents who have expressed “concern about what this bill might mean for them” and how they could be impacted by its changes to Medicaid, food assistance, energy credits, taxes on tips and gambling.

Yeager added he was going “to make sure that every single voter who goes to the ballot box here next year in 2026 knows about this bill and knows about the impact.”

Really?

Since when did it become evil to ask people who are capable to contribute some of their time and energy to their own upkeep?

Poor people have it too good

Keep it up and everyone will want to be poor

Wealth is overrated. Having said that there's no question that we have a serious wealth imbalance here in this country. It's probably the price you pay for capitalism. Not sure if it can actually be adjusted.... I'm thinking no.

So do we get rid of capitalism? Probably don't want to do that either because it is the single most productive system in the history of mankind. I guess all we can hope for is that someday it will be so successful that it will turn on itself and produce something that everyone can benefit from on a more equal basis.

Back in the day working folks did not really pay much mind to the "filthy rich" but they have always been among us and were decidedly more ruthless towards workers than today's billionaires ever thought or are allowed to be.

I believe that is why The Gilded Age is doing so well.

Actually that's a really good point. It's only in the past 25 to 30 years that the super rich have actually taken a real interest in social improvement for people beneath their financial status.
Prior to that it was all exploitation.

You have a point. The reality is that poor people are living better than much of the population of the planet. There are no rules, and the endless trillions of dollars spent keeps it going. If you have the answers, we have not seen it except it is has to be hate that causes it. I know there are some complications.

Has nothing to do with getting rid of capitalism.
But why set the playing field to favor the capitalists while the working class struggles to just get by.
Used to be a worker with basic skills could buy a home, have free healthcare, send his kids to college without going into debt.

We need to make Capitalists contribute more to the society they benefit from

Poor people in America are also living better than the lower-middle class did 50 years ago, or the middle class 85 years ago.

Poor people today:
The latest iPhones, large flat-screen TVs, fully air-conditioned homes subsidized by taxpayers, Nike sneakers, and enough in food stamps to allow purchases of steak and lobster when they’re not wasting money at McDonalds every other day.

Lower-middle class 1975:
One corded phone in the kitchen, a small b&w TV, an air conditioning window unit in their rented apartment or small house, cheap Keds. and eating out was at Big Boy’s for someone’s birthday once in a blue moon.

Middle-class 1940:
The shared phone was in the corner drugstore for emergencies, a small radio sat on the kitchen table, sweltering heat in a third-floor walk-up apartment, and dinner was always at home - cheap cuts of beef or chicken.

Let’s stop crying about the poor.

Lisa, you are buying into racist stereotypes.

No one is buying Steak and Lobster on food stamps.

The average SNAP Benefit in Illinois is $192.00 a month.

Steak costs 19.00 a lb.
Lobster costs $35-55 a lb.

They aren't going to buy a lot of that on $192 a month.

Of course, I've been hearing the "Poor people on food stamps buying Lobster" bullshit since the 1970's.

So this is nothing new.

A RW myth

Yes they have 60 in TVs, cell phones, internet and air conditioning

But their chances at upward mobility, buying a home, new car, healthcare, college education are nil.

Luxuries like eating out with the family, going to the movies, tickets to a baseball game are out of reach.

That family in the 40s and 50s had 4-6 kids and dad supported the family on one income. You could get a good paying union job with just a HS education and be set for life.

That is the misdirection that Conservatives sell working Americans

You are struggling because the poor people have it too good. Pay no attention to your employers stagnant wages, cuts in benefits, lack of job stability despite record profits.

What I would do is hand out more free stuff....homes cars..vacations......
Or, get this, you could raise the taxes of the mega-wealthy by a couple of percentage points that enables everyone else to get the services that helps the society in general.

Steller concept, no?

What’s racist about what I said? I am talking about welfare recipients, race irrelevant.

The fact that you think “black people” when food stamps are mentioned reveals that YOU, like all leftists, are the racists.

Ever do the math? Taking a couple of percentage points from the rich won’t come CLOSE to enabling everyone to get what the hard-working middle class gets.

Thank you. I pointed this out to him.

I never mentioned race, nor was I thinking about it. Quite telling how HE automatically thinks food stamps = black people, isn’t it?

Raising the tax rate of the ultra wealthy a few points isnt going to change anything. Most of that would be soaked up by other new spending
