Being on your phone during Thanksgiving? That is disrespectful. I left my phone at home when I visited my grandparents.
I didn't leave mine at home but I also didn't have mine out at the dinner table either.

I can help you stop that if you want. As I don't post when eating with my family.I mean I have my phone out every other time at the dinner table but not for special occasions.
Give that girl an award.I didn't leave mine at home but I also didn't have mine out at the dinner table either.

I respect that. I only asked because of my southern hospitality. No thanks. Everybody usually goes off and eats wherever then.
I have families that will discuss Politics around Christmas...in front of the kids and other family members and friends.
You can impose any or all the rules, but there will always be one or two jackasses in that group.
True! That's what a small card table down in the basement is for.
True!
I just put them at the kids table...that way they can interact with them, since they can't act like like the adults in the room.
This is a rare time when we disagree and might currently be the only time.
They do quite well with the kids. The kids don't know crap about Politics or Religion yet. Moral of the story: As long as we all can have a peaceful Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner, that's all that matters. We don't do that to the kids.
The drunks can stay outside on the porch. We have a very special place for them.We put the happy drunk with the kids.
That right there is just it. Even if one person makes the effort, the mission can still go unaccomplished. My older sister doesn't want anything more to do with me or our mom and so even if she were to be invited to our house, she wouldn't come because she won't answer the phone to us or write back online. My Uncle Jim voted for Kamala Harris, which I already knew he would. I still invited him over for Thanksgiving feast. But he declined.
