I'm sure we have plenty of threads on the subject of what everyone's favorite movie is, or which movie they think is the greatest ever. But why don't we have ourselves a thread of a totally opposite tone? That is to say what is our least favorite movie, or what movie we think is the worst ever. For me it's the movie, "Ready Player One." The whole movie just felt like a very contrived and paper thin story cooked up by a corporate marketing board to try and cash in on 'gamers' and 'gaming culture.' As someone who quite enjoys video games, I really was put off but such a forced effort to pander to me, notwithstanding the fact that the effort missed its mark since most of the references found in the movie were...designed to cater to a younger audience than myself. If you're curious what the plot is, I'll sum it up briefly. A shut in guy who spends all his time playing a VR game is trying to solve an easter egg (basically a hidden puzzle in a game) that will allow him total control of the game. The evil corporation is also trying to solve it so that they can cash in on the game's popularity. My favorite part was when the girl he was playing with in the game turned out to actually be a girl in real life, and not some grotesque fatbodied mentally ill man. I can suspend my disbelief only so much.

Edit: the irony of the movie feeling very corporate while itself being about a corporation trying to profiteer off of gaming is not lost on me.

2001 A space Odyssey ..... I swear that was one boring-ass movie as a teen and I've tried to watch is a few times as an adult....Still boring as shit till HAL got involved.

On the other hand 2010 was just great in all respects.

I think 2001, like Barry Lyndon were for me movies that I very much did not enjoy, but I could also understand why they were held in such high regard, and why others enjoyed them very much. 2001 was, when it was made, really out there.

Leave the World Behind - starring Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts.

Because it sucked.
Encino Man

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Had such a great cast and so much potential but was just stupid and over the top with the gimmicks.

John Carter. Utterly crap.

My mate loaned me Shutter Island. After watching most of it, I gave up because the film was crap. He said watch the last 15 mins. So I did and it was a completely different film. So Shutter Island is 90% crap.

Jeez. I loved Shutter Island. One of my favorite movies ever.

There can only be one:

“Old”

Was really looking forward to it and it turned out to be one of the most boring movies of all time.

I will admit I wasn’t in a great mood when I went, and if I remember right, it was the first movie we went to after the theaters opened up after Covid shut down.

So I watched it again when it became available on streaming. I think I liked it less.

Horrid movie. Dumb plot, terrible acting and dialogue a 4th grader could have written.
