Netflix is apparently trying to out woke Disney.
What a disaster, and what a stark misrepresentation of the actual story of the serial murderer Rodney Acala
They were way more interested in making every single male character in the movie - stupid, sexist, misogynist mad man. All of them. Even the nice guy in the film was made out to be that way.
And they changed the character of Sheryl Bradshaw to be a smart, tough no bullshit young woman who won't stand for all of these toxic asshole men. They COMPLETELY changed her character that appeared on the actual Dating Game episode.
The woke is very strong with this one, I would suggest to skip it.

Oh - and of course... Rotten Tomatoes gives it a whopping 91%!!!
That is higher than Dune, higher than Reverent.
HAHAHAHA

I already watched it and liked it but on reflection i think you are right.

You should watch the actual clip of that episode.
The only thing accurate, at all, is the set. The actual Sheryl Bradshaw has absolutely nothing in common with her. At all.

But is it a good movie? A reminder, dude was a bonafide serial killer.
Not even remotely deserving of a sky high 91% Rotten Tomatoes gives it. That is so transparently absurd. They don't even try to hide their ridiculous fake ratings anymore.
Anna Kendrick is a decent actor, everyone else's performance was okay. It wasn't poorly acted. They took a possible story about one of the most prolific serial killers in GLOBAL history and instead of that, they decided to fabricate a character based on the girl on the show that isn't even remotely accurate.
It is weird.

Alternatively, watch Late Night With The Devil. Its incredibly awesome. Has a 70's Rosemary's Baby feel.

I wasn't familiar with this serial killer, but I did watch the movie. Some woke stuff doesn't bother me, like casting a black women to play Ann Boleyn. It does take away IMO the story line when they manipulate characters for no other reason then to check woke boxes.

Well there was the one scene of her nude on House of Cards... one of her best performances
She was on house of cards? I just watched the original clip of the dating show and yeah, the movie was made up a lot.

It depends.
Including other races in movies is perfectly fine, I don't care at all as long as they can do the part. Except if it is a historical piece.
What I dislike is throwing in social messaging and woke ideology - just to do it.
And that is what this movie does. They changed the character of the host of The Dating Game to be a sexist jerk. He was not, the real man Jim Lange, was well liked by staff.
Every single male character is a sexist jerk. All of them. And every single female character is a victim. All of them.
