The truth is, most American music was culturally-appropriated from the blacks. This goes back as far as the pre- Civil War era, when Stephen Foster wrote songs that mimicked the black slaves. Al Jolson even did it in blackface. Then there was jazz, blues, rock and roll, which was appropriated from blacks, and much of the music today as well.

Even though artists like Stephen Foster and Al Jolson are considered today to be "racist", they weren't mocking black people. Like they say. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I was once a musician myself at one time, until I woke up one morning and realized I wasn't an old black man living in the 1930's. So now I'm an old white man living in the 2020's and happy with who I am.
