Witness To Jan 6 Commission Pleads 5th Amendment, Tells then Nothing

That's Ok. I would be willing to bet that committee has all the information they need. Just going through the procedure of giving these people a chance to tell their story...before they get the hammer dropped on them. McConnell knows what's coming. They are slowly tightening the cord around Trump's closest supporters. Get out your popcorn. This is gonna be fun.

So it's useless to get all lathered up

There are some wild misunderstandings of the applicable portions of the Fifth Amendment out there.

"No person...shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself..."

This is because in our system of JUSTICE, the prosecution has the burden of proving guilt. If an alleged perpetrator is compelled to take the stand, then that person has the right to refuse to answer questions. The right is deemed to be waived whenever a single answer is voluntarily given. Therefore legal Counsel invariably cautions clients to refuse to answer any and all questions when the client is compelled to take the stand.

In addition to revealing incriminating information, questions can be formulated to make the witness APPEAR guilty, even though innocent of the specific charges, or even of other crimes unrelated to the charges in question. "When did you stop beating your wife?"

In this phony "insurrection" affair, the phony House Panel is trying to mount a phony case against former President Trump, so as to harm him should he decide to run again. There is no real indication that President Trump or anyone on his staff promoted the takeover of the Federal Government by force - the very thought of it is preposterous. It is all a show trial. It would be foolish of ANYONE to testify before this gang of toadies about anything whatsoever.

There's no alternate interpretation of what the fifth means. It means you can't be compelled to to be a witness against yourself. Taking the fifth is a tacit confession of wrongdoing no matter how you cut it. It is in no way a superior option to testifying and clearing your name supposing you are innocent of wrongdoing.
The SCOTUS and laws schools across the country say you are wrong. :eusa_hand:

Mr Stone has expert first hand knowledge of the legal system so he has obviously made an informed choice on his legal strategy.

As an aside it really does look like this important work will see a lot of blood on the carpet.

Trump ally Roger Stone pleads the Fifth in deposition with January 6 committee - KTVZ

Two others also said they will also take the 5th and say nothing.

If they force Steve Bannon and Mark Meadows to testify, I predict they will also tell them nothing.

The Democrats are too stupid to understand that it is useless to call witnesses who don't want to cooperate

I think taking the fifth in this situation was more of a statement of disdain for another Democrat witch hunt. It only took Democrats 6 months to totally fuck this country up and they know that without some fabricated bullshit like this investigation, they'll get blown out in the midterms. Today's Democrats always pick drama over substance.

Someone taking the fifth in this situation means the same as it always does. He's not going to admit to criminal activity under oath without some guarantee of immunity.

Back up your claim.
It's not a claim dumb ass it's the law. Your claim that if one exercises their Constitutional 5th amendment rights they are presumed guilty is patently stupid. It frustrates the left that the Constitution guarantees our right to refuse to answer their questions or participate in their witch hunts and fishing expeditions.

It is still a tacit admission of guilt. The Constitution says nothing about "witch hunts". Just a protection against being forced to testify when you may incriminate yourself. If you're pleading the 5th, there is guilt there. Now I really don't care if any of these turds ever testifies. Fry them all and save the taxpayer the expense.

You are seriously confused. You have no right to refuse a subpoena just because you don't like who's asking the questions.

Pull your head out of your ass, you can tell the Dem witch hunters you plan to refuse to answer any of their questions and to suck it backed up by the US Constitution. Yes Dem assholes will sometimes still force people to show up so they can put on a show for the liberal media but we tell you to shove it up your ass and leave.
